The Law Offices of Barton Morris is committed to providing excellent representation to people facing criminal charges. The firm is dedicated to providing a superior level of service and advice to our clients. We are looking for a talented Associate Attorney to add to our Criminal Practice Group to defend our clients in all criminal cases including, but not limited to DUIs, driver's license restorations, expungements, and felonies.
We are looking for a candidate who is driven, will contribute to the team, and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They will be persuasive in their writing skills and have a deep understanding of each file as if it was their own. They need to be credible and discrete, with a high level of integrity, and able to work with highly confidential and privileged information. Their written and spoken language skills must be impeccable. At times they will work independently and other times collaboratively with other team members. They must be able to meet multiple competing deadlines and able to pivot when an unexpected hearing or other case related item arise.
Core Responsibilities
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Valid law license and in good standing with the Michigan Bar Association.
- 2 years of experience as a criminal attorney, either defense or prosecution.
- Trial experience preferred, first or second chair.
Required Qualifications
- Associate attorneys will represent clients in criminal and administrative cases, in both state and federal courts, throughout the state of Michigan.
- Interview and advise potential clients about all legal options available to them in their specific matter.
- Superior legal research and writing skills for motions, briefs and sentencing memos.
- Persuasively argue motions.
- Negotiate effectively with opposing counsel.
- Proactively manage workload and take 100% ownership of each file assigned.
- Bill a minimum of 1,440 annual and collectable hours while providing an exceptional client experience.
- Trial preparation.
