JOB DESCRIPTION FOR PARALEGAL
1) Able and equipped to work with trial attorneys and perform many tasks during the litigation process. Have a commitment and ability to work as part of the legal team on all phases of the trial preparation and then trial from beginning to end.
2) Paralegals will be required to perform routine office duties such as photocopying and scanning documents, and helping prepare them for court filings. This includes the ability to maintain litigation files, reviewing and preparing material for storage or disposal once a case has closed.
3) Beyond routine office duties, the litigation paralegal is often called on to assist in digesting depositions, witness preparation, and research. The paralegal should be able to understand and handle all exhibits.
4) The skill set should include a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. In order to succeed as a litigation paralegal, there are certain skills needed in this demanding profession.
Because of the amount of document preparation and maintenance, a litigation paralegal must be highly organized in document handling.
5) The ability to be a top level communicator is important, including but not limited to assist in direct communication with clients, witnesses, and court officials. Stellar communication skills are critical to this position.
6) The paralegal position will require a great amount of time drafting correspondence, pleadings, motions, doing basic legal research, editing briefs and many other documents needed in preparation for court. Because of this, excellent writing skills and attention to detail is crucial.
Must have knowledge or be proficient of the following is important:
All Phases of Federal Discovery (Initial Disclosures, Crafting and Responding to
Interrogatories and Document Demands, Deposition Digests);
Civil litigation, both State and Federal; and
Criminal Defense Litigation
