Foreman

Under direction of a Landscape Department Manager, plans, organizes and provides supervision and oversight for daily operations and activities in an assigned area which includes residential and non-residential properties; supervises and evaluates the work of crew technicians; inspects and troubleshoots issues with projects as they arise; performs related work as required.

Job Description

Plans and executes small scale or large scale landscaping/hardscaping operations. Supervises and participates with technicians in preparing and grading terrain, applying fertilizers, seeding and sodding lawns, transplanting shrubs and plants, using manual and power-operated equipment; makes sure equipment is used safely and properly. Plants new and repairs established lawns using seed or sod. Locates and plants shrubs, trees, and flowers according to a landscape plan. Trims shrubs and cultivates gardens. Installs small or large scale retaining walls using pre-cast retaining wall blocks, cinder blocks, or stone. Installs and/or builds ponds, fountains, arbors, or pergolas. Builds custom fire pits or fireplaces out of stone, cinder block, or pre-cast concrete materials. Must obtain some creativity skills. May dig trenches and install drains. Ensures crew materials customer properties in the very best conditions possible. Responsible for proper use of all equipment (hand tools and power-operated). Ensures technicians display professional appearance and manner. Ensures company grounds are maintained a professional appearance. Must have the ability to effectively communicate with customers.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Must possess strength, stamina and mobility to perform heavy physical work of doors in all weather conditions and with exposure to potentially hazardous conditions, use varied hand and power tools, drive a motor vehicle and/or heavy construction equipment; lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 90 pounds and heavier weights with the use of proper equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone and/or radio. Must work overtime as required. Must be willing to work out of doors in all weather conditions and with exposure to traffic and potentially hazardous conditions.
