Lawrence & Associates (L&A) is seeking a qualified and technically-minded individual to join our multi-disciplinary team at L&A for an entry-level civil engineering position. The ideal candidate will have a degree in civil engineering or related field (water resources or environmental engineering), have an engineer-in-training (EIT) certificate, and be on track to become a registered professional civil engineer. Starting work would include a variety of engineering projects related to groundwater and surface-water hydrology and civil engineering, including groundwater monitoring, statistical analysis and reporting, assisting with various types of water-well designs, and storm-water conveyance permitting and design. Work also would include civil design and permitting work commonly associated with solid waste recycling and disposal, and potentially environmental site assessments.

At L&A, entry level engineers work on a variety of projects under senior engineers and geologists that help build a broad base of experience for their professional career. We work closely across engineering disciplines to draw upon the experience and resources of professionals in the firm.

This is an immediate full-time position at our office in Shasta Lake, California. Pay will be based on qualifications and experience, estimated to range from $3,900 to $5,980 per month. Benefits include vacation, sick time, health insurance, and retirement plan.

L&A began as a groundwater hydrology firm and has developed broad expertise that include environmental and civil engineering related to site development, regulatory compliance, water supply, decentralized sewage disposal, stormwater compliance, contaminant investigation and remediation, solid waste disposal and recycling facility design and operations. The expertise required for each of these types of work is integrated to build a strong foundation for all environmental and engineering projects. L&A’s office is in the City of Shasta Lake, near Redding, California, and provides services throughout California, and southern Oregon.

Area Surrounding our Office :

The area surrounding the City of Shasta Lake and nearby Redding is a rural wonderland with Lassen National Park 45 minutes to the east, Whiskeytown National Recreation Area 15 minutes to the west, and Mount Shasta an hour to the north.

About Redding :

Climate.  Summers in Shasta County are hot and dry summers, and winters are cool and wet. Average high temperatures during July and August frequently exceed 90 degrees but drop to the low 50s in winter. Annual rainfall averages 33 inches, most of which falls between November and March. There are nearly 200 sunny days per year.

Location.  Redding, the largest city in Shasta County, is the business and government hub of northern California. The office of Lawrence & Associates is located in the Gateway Business Park in Shasta Lake, just a few miles north of Redding and about 10 minutes south of spectacular Shasta Lake.

Natural resources.  The region is blessed with abundant natural resources. The  Sacramento River , a stretch of river providing some of the best fishing in the Western United States, runs approximately north to south through Shasta County. Shasta Lake receives crystal, cold water from the upper Sacramento River, the  McCloud River , and numerous smaller streams.  Shasta Lake  is an ideal spot for varied recreational opportunities such as fishing, hiking, and water sports, including wake boarding, kayaking, and house boating.  Whiskeytown Lake , the abode of clear, cool water from the  Trinity River  and  Clear Creek , is located five minutes west of Redding. Majestic  Mt. Shasta  is located less than an hour north. Mt. Shasta is prized for its natural beauty and wintertime sports, including snowboarding, snowshoeing, and downhill and cross country skiing. Within one hour to the east is  Lassen Volcanic National Park  and to the west are the  Trinity Alps , recreation areas popular for their geologic wonders, fishing, camping, backpacking, and winter sports.

Community.  Shasta County cities and towns provide a  small-town atmosphere  with the amenities of a large city available in nearby Redding. Shasta County residents are friendly and affable, and it is typical to develop friendships with neighbors and community members. Other benefits include  affordable housing ,  minimal traffic congestion ,  exceptional schools , and  low crime rates , considered to be attractive alternatives to larger urban areas.  Post-secondary education  is available at Shasta College, Chico State University (which provides satellite learning opportunities in conjunction with Shasta College), Simpson College, and National University. Shasta County residents enjoy a wide variety of  cultural activities , including the Turtle Bay Museum, live theater, art exhibits, concert venues, and first-class rodeos and air shows. The Ashland, Oregon Shakespeare Festival is a 90-minute drive to the north, and about a 2½-hour drive westward, along a scenic drive, is the eclectic Humboldt County region, complete with uncrowded beaches and rugged coastline of the Pacific.

Commerce.  The Redding Metro area is a growing center of commerce and industry, the regional center of Northern California with state-of-the-art healthcare services, shopping, and employment opportunities. Ranching, vineyards, and other small-scale agricultural activities are common in Shasta County just beyond the Redding Metro area.
