Postdoctoral Fellow in Actinide Chemistry Join the Heavy Element Chemistry (HEC) Program at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) as a Postdoctoral Fellow and contribute to groundbreaking research in the field of actinide chemistry. This unique opportunity allows you to explore the synthesis and characterization of transuranic compounds while working in a collaborative and innovative research environment at one of the world's leading scientific institutions.What You Will Do : Synthesis and Characterization : Develop and synthesize novel f-element and actinide compounds from aqueous solutions. Characterize these compounds using state-of-the-art techniques such as : X-ray crystallography.Spectroscopies, including X-ray absorption, Raman, luminescence, and electronic absorption.Research Development : Conceive and execute experiments, interpret results, and communicate findings through scientific journals and presentations at meetings.Collaboration : Work independently and as part of a diverse team, providing mentorship and support to other group members.Safety and Infrastructure : Maintain high safety standards and contribute to the group’s infrastructure, including waste management and chemical inventory.Scientific Engagement : Actively participate in group seminars, project meetings, and proposals for engaging with DOE user facilities, such as the Advanced Light Source at LBNL.What is Required : Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or a related field.Strong expertise in synthesizing metal coordination complexes.Proficiency in small molecule X-ray crystallography.Experience with additional techniques to characterize inorganic compounds.Proven ability to work safely with hazardous materials, including radioactive and chemical hazards.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in diverse teams and independently as a researcher.Strong scientific communication skills, with a track record of technical and / or scientific publications.Desired Qualifications : Hands-on experience handling and manipulating radioactive materials.Experience in training others to safely handle radioactive materials.Proven leadership in laboratory tasks, such as chemical inventory management and waste handling.Interest in engaging with DOE user facilities through research proposals.Notes : This is a full-time, 2 years, postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 3 years of paid postdoctoral experience. Salary for Postdoctoral positions depends on years of experience post-degree.This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.The monthly salary range for this position is $5,562.00 - $6,670. Postdoctoral positions are paid on a step schedule per union contract and salaries will be predetermined based on postdoctoral step rates. Each step represents one full year of completed post-Ph.D. postdoctoral and / or related research experience.This position is subject to a background check.
