What are the responsibilities and job description for the ESnet Program Operations Analyst position at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory?
The ESnet Program Operations Analyst will support the ESnet Business Office and primarily focus on overseeing the operations and programmatic functions of ESnet initiatives, with an emphasis on project coordination, monitoring progress, and reporting. The Analyst will work closely with other departments, including the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO), to ensure smooth operation but will not be responsible for performing finance tasks that fall under the OCFO Resource Analyst's role.
What You Will Do:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the overall success of the ESnet program.
- Ensure alignment between program operations and strategic objectives.
- Monitor and manage schedules, deliverables, and milestones.
- Interact with finance teams to collect and report on data.
- In conjunction with the finance team, based on data received, advise Project Management Office on improving cost templates to capture better and reflect project cost impacts (non-FMS).
- Evaluate procurement data received to identify discrepancies and understand root causes (system issues, process inefficiencies, etc.)
- Conduct external analyses to identify best practices and provide recommendations for long-term program operational strategy.
- Act as the primary point of contact for program-related operational inquiries.
- Provide operational support for project teams, assisting with resource allocation, and addressing any operational bottlenecks.
- Update and maintain program status reports, including tracking deliverables and timelines.
What is Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
- Familiar with IT Networking or Telecommunications industry, pricing, equipment, and services.
- A minimum of 4-8 years of experience in operations monitoring or analyst roles.
- Substantial experience with scheduling, budgeting, tracking and coordinating cross-functional activities.
- Proven program/project management skills.
- Demonstrated experience interacting effectively with personnel at all levels of the organization and presenting moderately complex technical project deliverables to management and external agencies.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with senior leadership and external stakeholders.
- Ability to use independent judgment to determine the best course of action and provide recommendations to address problems/issues.
- Ability to independently formulate, organize, document, and present ideas in an effective manner.
- Demonstrated ability to make independent decisions consistent with organizational goals, policies and procedures. Sound judgment and ability to take decisive action without all desired information.
- Proven ability to develop, nurture and influence relationships across diverse organizations.
- High level of organizational skills to independently initiate and prioritize responsibilities and manage multiple/competing projects within an environment of changing priorities.
- Excellent writing, verbal, presentation, customer service, and interpersonal communication skills.
Notes:
- This is a full time, 1 year, term appointment with the possibility of extension or conversion to Career appointment based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.
- The full salary range of this position is between $86,364 to $145,704 per year and is expected to pay between a targeted range of $97,140 to $118,716 per year depending upon candidates' full skills, knowledge, and abilities, including education, certifications, and years of experience.

- Work may be performed on-site, hybrid. The primary location for this role is Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA. Work must be performed within the United States.
