Location: Lawrence, MA
Position Type: Full-Time, 40 hours per week, typically Monday - Friday, 10 - 6; schedule may vary, with some evenings
and weekends required.
Salary: $60,000.00 (yr)
Reports To: Atrius Project Director
The Atrius Health Equity Foundation (AHEF) Lawrence Project is a collaborative initiative of youth development
organizations and health institutions working to address social determinants of health (SDOH) and promote equity in
Lawrence’s North Canal Mill District. Through a coordinated five-year plan, the project aims to impact youth mental
health, family wellness, social connectedness, leadership development, economic mobility, and neighborhood health.
This initiative is a collaboration between Lawrence CommunityWorks/Movement City (LCW/MC), Lawrence General
Hospital (LGH), Greater Lawrence Family Health Center (GLFHC), Youth Development Organization (YDO), ACT
Lawrence, SquashBusters Lawrence (SBL), Groundwork Lawrence (GWL), Elevated Thought (ET), Top Notch Scholars
(TNS), and Boston College School of Social Work (BC).
Position Description: The Youth Organizer and Leadership Coordinator plays a critical role in developing youth
leadership, fostering social connectedness, and organizing youth-driven initiatives. This individual will mentor and
empower youth to take active roles in community efforts, ensuring young people are leading positive change in Lawrence.
Additionally, this role will coordinate youth engagement in programs that promote family wellness, mental health
awareness, and economic mobility while collaborating.
Responsibilities
Youth Leadership Development & Empowerment
- Design and facilitate leadership development programs that equip youth with skills in community engagement,
advocacy, public speaking, teamwork, and decision-making.
- Mentor and coach youth to take on leadership roles within their communities.
- Organize workshops, retreats, and training sessions focused on leadership, social justice, and civic engagement.
- Guide youth in developing action plans to address community needs and support their efforts in implementing
them.
- Engage youth in community efforts by connecting them with volunteer opportunities, civic initiatives, and
initiative-related projects.
- Support youth-led initiatives, encouraging young people to identify challenges and drive solutions in their
neighborhoods.
- Develop and oversee youth advisory councils that provide a platform for youth voices in community decision-
making.
- Foster partnerships with local organizations, schools, and community stakeholders to create youth-driven
programs.
Family & Neighborhood Engagement
- Support youth leaders in working with families to promote family wellness, mental health awareness, and
economic mobility.
- Work with youth to organize community events and initiatives that enhance family engagement and strengthen
neighborhood well-being.
- Serve as a liaison between the Movement City Youth Network, the AHEF Lawrence Project, and local health
institutions, ensuring youth programs align with community health and equity goals.
- With project partners, have youth-led community place-making projects that transform the North Canal Mill
District into a vibrant, healthy space for families.
- Engage youth in neighborhood service projects that enhance community safety, accessibility, and environmental
sustainability.
- Support Youth in planning and implementing youth-led events, such as service projects, advocacy campaigns, and
cultural celebrations.
- Assist youth in organizing forums, town halls, and discussions on social issues impacting their community.
- Manage logistics for youth engagement activities, including outreach, recruitment, scheduling, and event
execution.
Mentorship & Support
- Build strong, positive relationships with youth, offering guidance and encouragement.
- Create inclusive, safe spaces for youth to express themselves and develop confidence.
- Address challenges youth face, connecting them with resources and support services as needed.
- Administrative & Reporting Responsibilities
- Track program participation, engagement metrics, and leadership growth among youth.
- Develop impact reports and provide recommendations for program improvement.
- Monitor the progress of youth development programs and provide regular updates to leadership and community
partners on the AHEF Lawrence Project steering committee.
Qualifications & Experience
- Passion for working with youth
- Bachelor’s degree in youth development, social work, public health, education, community organizing, or a
related field or equivalent experience (preferred)
- 3 years of experience in youth leadership development, community organizing, or program coordination.
- Strong understanding of social determinants of health (SDOH), mental health, and economic mobility.
- Experience facilitating workshops, mentoring youth, and leading community initiatives.
- Bilingual (Spanish) is strongly preferred.
- Understanding of and sensitivity to the experiences and needs of youth of color, with an emphasis on
Latinx/Hispanic youth in Lawrence, MA.
- Proven ability to build relationships with youth, families, and community stakeholders.
- Familiarity with Lawrence’s diverse communities and experience working in urban environments (preferred).
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
- Take on additional responsibilities as needed to meet the evolving needs of the team and organization.
