What are the responsibilities and job description for the Communicable Disease Nurse position at Lawrence County Health Department?
The Communicable Disease Nurse leads the communicable disease (CD) and community flu vaccine programs.
Essential functions of this position are as follows:
Calls weekly and makes visits to Lawrence County jail as needed for health assessments and completing/reading TB tests;
Daily checks of INEDSS site for communicable disease cases in Lawrence County;
Documents CD reportable information into INEDSS in a timely manner;
Communicates with individuals, families, physicians, hospitals, and state officials on all reportable cases;
Investigates potential CD cases and administers medication as applicable (CD and TB); Attends CD, TB, and HIV training;
Proposes plans and coordinates annual community flu season activities;
Complete purchase orders for adult vaccine, syringes, gloves, etc.;
Sets schedule for flu shots at the Senior Citizens locations;
Contacts and sets schedules for giving flu shots at local businesses;
Administers flu shots at scheduled sites and requests additional staffing as needed;
Assists in giving flu shots to the walk-in public in the Public Health Clinic
Qualifications:
- Valid IL RN License required;
- 2 years minimum Public Health experience preferred;
- Excellent writing skills, public speaking ability;
- Ability to interact with the Administrator, Administration, boards, public and staff in efficient, friendly, cooperative, confidential and professional manner and to ensure great customer service is provided to everyone at all times.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to constantly move about from room to room within the health department.
Employee must be able to remain stationary for periods of time to conduct exams and complete appropriate documentation.
Ability to move up to 50 lbs.
Must have the ability to professionally communicate with patients, staff, administration, board, stakeholders, and other parties regarding medical and supervisory questions.
