- Position: Care and Enrichment Associate
- Department: Animal Care and Enrichment
- Reports To: Senior Manager of Operations
- Classification: Non-Exempt (Hourly), Full-Time
- Supervises: Volunteers supporting applicable areas of operations
- Schedule: Saturday through Wednesday from 8:30 am to 5:30pm. Thursdays and Fridays off. Some nights, weekends, and holidays required.
- Starting Salary: $14.00 - $16.00/hour (Based on experience and skills)

What You’ll Do:
- Provide daily care, feeding, and enrichment for shelter animals to support their physical and mental well-being.
- Clean and disinfect kennels, cages, and common areas while following strict disease prevention protocols.
- Observe and monitor animal health and behavior, reporting concerns promptly with accurate documentation.
- Assist with adoptions and support pet owners in finding lost animals.
- Engage positively with volunteers and help train them to support daily operations.
- Maintain organized, up-to-date records on animal care, feeding schedules, and behavioral observations.
- Advocate for animals by identifying their needs and ensuring they are set up for success in adoptive homes.
- Stock and maintain supplies while ensuring a clean and organized work environment.
- Promote humane handling and positive reinforcement training techniques.
- Represent Lawrence Humane with professionalism and provide excellent customer service.
Who You Are:
- A dedicated animal lover with experience in animal care, sheltering, or veterinary medicine (preferred but not required).
- A strong team player with excellent communication and time management skills.
- Able to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment with exposure to various weather conditions, animal-related risks, and cleaning chemicals.
- Comfortable handling animals of all sizes and temperaments, including those who are stressed or fearful.
- Adaptable to changing priorities and committed to following safety and disease prevention protocols.
- Proficient in basic computer tasks and willing to learn shelter software like Chameleon.
- Must be at least 18 years old and available to work weekends and holidays as needed.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
This role requires frequent standing, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and exposure to loud noises, strong odors, and pet dander. You must be comfortable working with animals in various emotional states, including fearful or aggressive behavior. Protective equipment is required in certain situations to ensure the safety of both staff and animals.
