Paving Operator

This Heavy Equipment Operator position is a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers (I.U.O.E.) Local 4, which has a long history of delivering world-class results. Key Responsibilities

• Operate paving machines (e.g., Caterpillar, Volvo, or similar) for asphalt paving operations

• Set up and adjust equipment to ensure proper material distribution and smooth surface finish

• Coordinate with the crew to ensure efficient operation and safe job site practices

• Monitor material temperature, flow, and level to ensure proper compaction and finish

• Inspect the paved surface for quality and consistency, adjusting the machine settings as necessary

• Assist in setting up job sites and handling material as needed

• Perform routine maintenance and pre-operation checks on equipment

• Ensure job site safety by following all company policies and OSHA regulations

Qualifications

• Valid MA Hoisting License (2A preferred)

• OSHA 10 certification (minimum)

• Minimum 2 years of experience operating paving equipment

• Strong understanding of paving techniques, mix designs, and surface quality

Preferred Skills

• Experience with both large and smaller paving machines

• Ability to read blueprints or grade stakes and adjust machine settings accordingly

• Familiarity with various paving materials and their uses

• Ability to perform basic troubleshooting and routine machine maintenance

• Strong communication skills to work effectively with a team

• Attention to detail and ability to ensure high-quality, smooth finishes

Working Conditions

• Outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including heat and rain

• Extended hours, early starts, and possible night/weekend shifts

• Physical demands include the ability to lift 50 lbs and work in a fast-paced environment

• Travel required to various job sites across Cape Cod and Southeastern MA

HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR WORK SCHEDULE

Our peak construction periods are typically in the Spring and Fall. Work is dependent on project-based needs, however a majority of our employees work 40 hours during peak periods, and as needed during off seasons. Typical work days begin around 7:00 am and finished by 5:00 pm.
