What are the responsibilities and job description for the Speech and Language Pathologist position at Lawrence Public Schools?
1. Screens children whose speech, language, hearing or auditory processing is of concern to teachers, administrators or parents through observation, consultation, review of child's history and administration of screening and evaluation instruments.
2. Evaluates and re-evaluates the speech, language and auditory processing of children who are referred under Chapter 766 by administration of diagnostic tests and other clinical procedures.
3. Writes diagnostic summaries of evaluations and consults with parents and teachers so that diagnostic information can facilitate appropriate remediation and management of disabilities at school and at home.
4. Provides remediation for speech, language, hearing and auditory processing difficulties through individual and small group therapy.
5. Participates as a member of the Special Education Evaluation Team including the writing of Individualized Educational Plans for children who will receive speech and language services.
6. Consults and coordinates with parents, teachers and other professional workers.
7. Conducts system-wide in-service workshops for school staff members.
8. Assumes responsibility for professional growth through participation of staff and program development procedures and attendance at courses and/or professional meetings.
