ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF ALUMNI ENGAGEMENT
REPORTS TO: Executive Director for Board and Volunteer Management
ABOUT US:
The Office of University Advancement advances and amplifies the mission, purposes, and goals of Lawrence University through fundraising and partnerships, volunteer leadership support, strategic marketing and communications, and alumni and community engagement.
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
As the Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement you will be an essential member of the Alumni and Community Engagement team within the Office of University Advancement. You will be responsible for the implementation of meaningful engagement experiences for Lawrence University alumni that promote connection and community, and that build long-term philanthropic support for the institution. Your work will facilitate the planning process for class reunion committees, affinity reunion groups, regional alumni groups, and the volunteer leadership of the Lawrence University Alumni Association. You will also serve in a concierge role assisting with a wide variety of alumni campus visits all while sustaining the university’s reputation as a leading liberal arts institution.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Manage the day-to-day tasks of multiple alumni engagement programs and projects.
- Coordinate the work for alumni reunion committees and facilitate their virtual reunion planning meetings.
- Partner with alumni in select regional areas, as well as in a virtual capacity, to cultivate engagement with the University and with each other.
- Serve in a concierge capacity to provide hospitality assistance for alumni visits to campus.
2. Work collaboratively with Alumni and Community Engagement staff to support the work of volunteer boards and advisory councils.
- Plan and support meeting set-up and logistics.
- Keep meeting minutes.
- Serve as Ex Officio Secretary to the Lawrence University Alumni Association Board of Directors.
3. Develop and implement affinity engagement opportunities at Homecoming.
4. Provide key support for Reunion weekend, Lawrence’s largest annual alumni event, as well as other on-campus events for alumni, parents, and donors.

5. Become proficient with use of the alumni database and other digital engagement platforms.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
The Assistant Director will work most closely with members the Advancement Office and Alumni and Community Engagement teams as well as with Lawrence University alumni volunteers. Additionally, the Assistant Director will work with faculty, students, and staff across campus and the University’s constituents— donors, parents, friends, and Fox Valley community members.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in related area with an appreciation for private, liberal arts, residential colleges.
- Two or more years relevant experience.
- Exceptional project management skills, including time management, with the ability to coordinate multiple programs and projects simultaneously.
- Strong organizational expertise with a high attention to detail and follow-up.
- Solution oriented with a demonstrated ability to problem-solve and apply sound judgement.
- Demonstrated success in a fast-moving, multi-stakeholder environment.
- Natural relationship builder with outgoing attitude and interest in collaborating with a wide diversity of internal and external colleagues.
- Creative approach to challenges, a willingness to learn, and a sense of humor.
- Possess exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills i.e., courteous, articulate, and confident with the ability to represent the university in a professional manner.
