Qualifications Reports to : Facility Operations Trades Supervisor
Department : Lawrence University (LU), Facilities Operations
Location : Facility Operations with Daily Assignments in University Buildings
Position Summary : The General Maintenance Assistant performs a wide variety of duties across a diverse campus community.
Work independently and with other trades personnel to complete work orders related to all the trades areas depending upon abilities.
Position Competencies and Accountabilities :
1. Support HVAC, boilers, electrical, carpentry, mechanical, plumbing, and other duties as assigned by supervisor.2. Complete assigned work orders in a professional manner, and with sensitivity to working within a diverse student body, staff and faculty.
Complete daily time sheets.3. Maintain clean equipment rooms. 4. Assist with training and supervision of diverse student workers.
5. Order and pick up needed supplies, parts, and equipment. 6. Additional tasks and assignments to assist in the overall mission of Facility Operations.
7. Provide a high level of customer service and satisfaction by responding promptly to all customer requests and or complaints and communicate them to supervisor in a timely manner.
8. Assist with snow removal as needed and required.9. Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Relationships :
Will work collaboratively with all members of the Facility staff and occupants of the various university buildings where work is being performed.
Must be able to provide excellent customer service to all members of the diverse campus community, to respond to and work with students, faculty, and staff in a professional and courteous manner.
Knowledge and Skills Required :
1. Prefer previous maintenance experience.2. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.3. Must be able to climb using step and extension ladders.
4. Efficient and effective communication with supervisor, other tradesmen and customers, including sensitivity to working within a diverse campus community.
5. Must possess excellent customer services skills.6. Self-starter who can complete assigned projects without supervision.
7. Ability to read and follow oral or written instructions.8. General math skills.9. Basic computer skills and the ability to learn and use a computer including e-mail and online work orders or instructions.
10. Excellent work attendance.11. Must be available for occasional after hours, weekend, on-call, and call-in duties.12. Ability to operate powered hand tools
EMPLOYMENT REQUIRMENTS : 1. Must have successful completion of criminal record check, pre-employment physical and pre-work screen, driving record check and reference checks.
2. Must have a valid Driver’s License and must be able to become an authorized Lawrence University driver.3. Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
