What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructor of Composition position at Lawrence University?
Lawrence University of Wisconsin, an undergraduate liberal arts college and conservatory of music located in Appleton, Wisconsin, invites applications for a full-time Instructor of Composition to begin September 1, 2025.
Responsibilities
We are seeking a creative, collaborative colleague to join our forward-looking community as an Instructor of Composition. Related activities include classroom teaching, collaborating with student and faculty ensembles, co-directing Composition Studio Recitals, coaching student compositions, collaborating with the Film Studies Department and recruiting. Additional responsibilities may include student advising and committee work when appropriate.
Qualifications
Portfolio of original works that demonstrates excellence in contemporary classical composition and film and media scoring. Demonstrable experience teaching contemporary classical composition, film and media scoring, orchestration, music technology, and introductory courses. Familiarity with jazz, popular music styles, and global traditions is a plus. Must be able to bring our students to the highest levels of artistic and musical mastery in a nurturing, student-centered environment. A background in community engagement and collaboration is desirable, as is a background in entrepreneurship. A composer who is professionally active is preferred. Appropriate terminal degree or equivalent experience. A record of successful collegiate teaching and recruiting is desirable. Although this is a Conservatory position, strong support of the ideals and goals of a broad liberal arts education is a must.
Rank And Salary
Full-time non-tenure line position with a one year renewable contract. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
