The Music Librarian at Seeley G. Mudd Library participates in both public services such as reference and instruction, and technical services including acquisitions and cataloging. As a faculty member, the Music Librarian participates in faculty governance and committee service.
Responsibilities
Works closely and collaboratively with conservatory faculty and library faculty and staff to provide and maintain quality services and collections. Functions as the liaison between the library and the Conservatory of Music, maintaining effective communication with colleagues, faculty, and students. As a part of the library’s information literacy initiatives, teaches students to identify, evaluate, and use information resources, in classroom settings, one-on-one at the reference desk, and virtually. Provides music research and reference assistance to the Lawrence community and the public. Works within the music acquisitions budget for purchasing and oversees music collection development. Works with Acquisitions Assistant to procure and ensure rights to materials in all formats. Catalogs scores and sound recordings. Performs original and complex copy cataloging of scores and recordings and holdings maintenance using OCLC Connexion. Oversees all aspects of music materials processing with the help of the Cataloging and Collections Assistant. Creates and maintains research guides using the LibGuides platform in music and other areas as needed. Provides general reference service in rotation with other librarians, in a schedule that includes some evening/weekend hours. Employs strategies to stay current on issues and trends in music librarianship.

Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Science from an ALA -accredited program; undergraduate major in music.
- Demonstrated understanding of issues related to music librarianship, including familiarity with music cataloging standards, online systems including OCLC Connexion, and provision of music reference service and instruction.
- Experience performing original and complex cataloging, enhancement, and enrichment of records of scores and recordings.
- Knowledge and experience in the use of print and electronic resources and services.
- Knowledge of copyright law and familiarity with current copyright best practices a plus.
- Strong commitment to responsive and innovative service.
- Ability to balance varied responsibilities.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues and undergraduate students.
- Graduate degree in music.
- Experience with Ex Libris Alma/Primo.
- Experience working in an academic library.
