EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Major DutiesResponds to emergencies involving damage to gas facilities, gas mains, service lines, regulator stations, and gas fires.Locates and repairs leaks; repairs cut service lines.Repairs and maintains meter sets; sets meters for new construction and existing businesses and homes; ensures correct pressure settings.Meets with customers to discuss complaints of pressure problems, gas outages, etc. and makes necessary adjustments and repairs.Meets with customers to determine load size, meter requirements, and regulators.Identifies and repairs corrosion damage.Completes sketches and reports.Stocks and maintains service truck.Calibrates and employs gas detection sensors.Performs related duties.

Supervisory ControlsThe Regulatory Compliance Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.Guidelines Guidelines include the State of Georgia Code Title 46, the Code of Federal Regulations, the Natural Gas Fuel Code, city and county ordinances, and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.Complexity/Scope of Work The work consists of related technical duties. The need to respond to potentially dangerous emergencies contributes to the complexity of the position.The purpose of this position is to install, repair, and maintain gas services to commercial customers. Successful performance helps ensure the safe, effective and efficient operation of the natural gas utility system.ContactsContacts are typically with co-workers, customers, fire and law enforcement personnel, business owners, home owners, builders, and members of the general public.Contacts are typically to exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.Physical Demands/Work Environment The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.The work is typically performed in an office, stockroom, warehouse, or outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.Supervisory and Management ResponsibilityNone.Minimum Qualifications Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for three to five years.Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
