Overview:
Layer-1 Technologies, LLC is seeking a Lead Technician to join our team in Austin, TX. This supervisory position will oversee the installation, maintenance, and quality assurance of structured cabling systems, supporting junior technicians and ensuring that all projects meet industry standards and client expectations. This role will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of low voltage systems, including security systems, surveillance cameras, and computer networking. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of electrical systems and cabling, as well as experience with system design and implementation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and guide junior technicians on project tasks, ensuring efficiency and adherence to company standards.
- Plan, install, and test structured cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, and fiber optic cables.
- Oversee the installation and configuration of audio/video systems such as displays, projectors, speakers, and conferencing equipment.
- Perform quality assurance checks and troubleshoot complex cabling and AV system issues.
- Conduct site surveys and provide input on project scope and timelines.
- Maintain clear and professional communication with clients and project stakeholders.
- Ensure proper documentation of work completed, including project logs and test results.
- Adhere to and enforce industry safety standards and company policies.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior team members.
- Document all installations, repairs, and maintenance activities for future reference.
- Ensure compliance with National Electrical Code (NEC) standards during installations and repairs.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in structured cabling and audio/video system installation.
- Proficient in cable testing, troubleshooting, and termination, including fiber optics.
- Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience in a related field.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and lead a team effectively.
- Must have liability insurance ($1,000,000 minimum).
- Successful completion of a background check and pre-employment drug screening.
- Reliable transportation and punctuality.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Certifications such as BICSI Technician, CompTIA Network , or similar.
- Experience with AV control systems (e.g., Crestron, Extron).
- Knowledge of advanced networking infrastructure and system design.
