What are the responsibilities and job description for the Yard Person position at LB Foster?
As a Yard Person, you are responsible for moving, loading and unloading products and materials while following standard work methods and practicing safe work habits to ensure efficiency. Works closely with production to ensure all product shipments are properly loaded and paperwork is complete.
Responsibilities
- Attends daily safe start meetings and follows all safe work practices and procedures.
- Comply with all company safety, quality and environmental policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate 5S standards to maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Understand proper rigging and principles to apply when rigging product for loading.
- Trained and demonstrate competence in operation all forklifts over 18,000 pounds, skid-steer(s), overhead cranes, and manlift.
- Operate yard equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Provide ground hand signals to other operators.
- Examine received material to verify conformance to quality standards.
- Responsible for shipping of production products per Planning Schedule and ensure all paperwork is accurate and complete.
- Perform all pre-shift inspections prior to equipment operation.
- Professionally interacts with internal and external customers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience and Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2 year of experience in a yard environment and equipment operation.
- Demonstrates verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrate ability to prioritize, work efficiently and positively within a team.
- Attention to detail
- Ability to exert up to 80 pounds of force occasionally, up to 40 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
