OVERVIEW
Project Directors serve as the cornerstone leaders within our team. They are seasoned professionals with primary responsibilities encompassing the cultivation of culture, refinement of processes, and the overarching success of not only of their own projects but also of the team and its individual members that report to them. They take ownership of ensuring the quality of the team’s deliverables and nurturing the professional growth of each team member.
While a Project Director does manage their own projects, a significant portion of their time is dedicated to leading and guiding their team. They hold the responsibility of proposing staffing adjustments to optimize team composition in alignment with LeJeune’s Core Promise to OUTDO and Core Purpose to Build Great Leaders.
Furthermore, Project Directors are tasked with monitoring the team’s workload and understanding the strengths and areas for the development of each team member. This insight enables them to effectively manage the team’s workload, including making informed recommendations for Project Manager assignments on newly acquired projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Team Leadership
- Lead by example in upholding LeJeune’s Core Promise to OUTDO and Core Purpose to Build Great Leaders in all aspects of project management and team leadership
- Drive the development and maintenance of a positive team culture that fosters collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement
- Monitor team workload and individual capacities to ensure optimal resource allocation and workload management
- Propose personnel additions or changes to optimize team composition and capabilities in alignment with organizational goals and values
- Provide regular performance feedback and conduct performance evaluations for team members
- Foster a customer-centric mindset within the team, prioritizing exceptional client experiences and relationship-building
- Establish and refine project management processes to ensure efficiency, effectiveness, and adherence to best practices
Client Engagement
- Develop meaningful relationships with internal and external clients, understanding their vision and requirements
- Conduct routine site and client visits generating consistent client touchpoints
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and project stakeholders
- Provide regular project updates and progress reports to clients, maintaining transparency and building trust
- Address and resolve any client concerns promptly
- Periodically work from project locations as required
- Communicate and defend impacts to project budget and schedule due to design or scope adjustments
Project Leadership
- Ability to lead self and teams including other project managers
- Coordinate sequence plan with erector and client that maximizes efficiency, flexibility, and reduces project risk
- Create and maintain project schedule including but not limited to submittal dates, fabrications windows, and installation milestones
- Maintain and monitor project logs (RFIs, submittals, etc.) as required
- Promptly address any field or fabrication issues as required with PM
- Facilitate project meetings, including kickoff meetings, status meetings, and problem-solving meetings to ensure effective communication and collaboration
Financial Oversight
- Monitor project budgets, track project expenses, manage project costs, and authorize adjustments as necessary to ensure adherence to budgetary constraints and financial targets
- Understand the initial project budget while incorporating and managing budget changes
- Complete monthly Profit and Loss statement review and commentary
- Collaborate with estimating to quantify any project changes and clearly communicate costs and schedule implications to the client
- Submit monthly billings, understanding costs incurred and cash flow requirements
Quality Assurance
- Understand and utilize standard operating procedures to reduce variation
- Supervise project deliverables, ensuring high-quality workmanship and adherence to specifications
- Extensively utilize Procore for document management, RFIs, submittal logs, change management, and other project information
Direct Reports
- Offer guidance and support to direct reports in understanding project management principles, methodologies, and best practices
- Share personal experiences, lessons learned, and insights gained from managing previous projects to help the team navigate similar situations
- Provide advice and recommendations on project planning, scheduling, budgeting, resource allocation, risk management, and stakeholder communication
- Offer constructive feedback on the work of your direct reports, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement, and providing actionable suggestions for growth
- Conduct annual reviews of direct reports
- Foster a collaborative working environment where direct reports feel comfortable seeking advice, asking questions, and sharing ideas with other team members
- Acknowledge and celebrate achievements and milestones, reinforcing positive behaviors and encouraging continued growth and development
- Serve as a role model for professionalism, dedication, and commitment to excellence, inspiring the team to strive for success in their project management career
- Coach team members through project issues, getting involved as necessary
- Ultimately responsible for the performance of the team
QUALIFICATIONS (required)
*Indicates differentiation from Senior Project Manager
- Experience in structural steel having mastered projects typically managed by a Senior Project Manager (see job description)
- *Skill in empowering team members by delegating tasks and responsibilities appropriately, while providing guidance and support as needed
- *Experience in setting clear performance expectations, conducting regular performance evaluations, and providing constructive feedback to support the professional development of team members
- *Commitment to fostering a culture of continuous feedback and improvement within the team, encouraging open communication and constructive feedback exchange
- *Ability to effectively manage remote teams, leveraging communication technologies and remote collaboration tools to maintain engagement and productivity
- *Capability to manage and lead teams effectively during times of crisis or adversity, maintain calmness, resilience, and focus on problem-solving and team support
- *Proven ability to effectively resolve conflicts and disputes within the team, fostering a collaborative and harmonious work environment
- Strong coaching and mentoring skills, including the ability to set goals, establish expectations, provide guidance, offer feedback, and evaluate progress effectively
- Proficient in Procore (construction management software) and Bluebeam (pdf software)
- Deep understanding of Procore financial management including but not limited to Prime Contracts, Change Orders, Budget, Commitments, and Change events
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and quality in all tasks
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and learning
- Ability to quickly learn and retain new information
- Ability and desire to work on project location from time to time
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (not required)
- 2 or 4-year degree with a focus on construction management or engineering
- Proven ability through previous experience to build, develop, and manage high-performing teams, including the recruitment, training, and performance management of team members

Benefits and Compensation:
This role is based out of our Minneapolis office. The base pay range is $100,000-$160,000 a year depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for annual bonus and profit sharing based on company performance in addition to other benefits that support the total well-being of you and your family.
