Pay Range : $35.00 to $45.00per hour

Job Summary :

Lead Marine has immediate openings for a Shipyard Safety Foreman for a large defense sub-contracting coming on the waterfront here in San Diego. This Foreman position with help ensure the safetyand health resourcesfor facility and subcontractor personnel working in a variety of industrial fields associated with shiprepair. The areas include onboardsea goingvessels and ships, industrial shops, dry-docks, etc. Ensuring compliance with established regulations by Federal OSHA, Cal / OSHA, NAVSEA Standard Items, and Maritime rules.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Daily survey and inspection of a variety of working environments and sites. Ensuring compliance with promulgated safety and health regulations, as well as company policies and procedures. Facilitating correction of hazards and infractions found or ceasing operations until properly corrected.
  • Company representative. Continuous interaction withcustomer(US Navy, SWRMC, etc.), company employees, subcontractors, vendors, Federal and California OSHA Compliance Officers and visitors to the facility and other locations.
  • Safety orientation and Training Supervisor for all employees, subcontractors and ships force / crew. Areas of training include, but are not limited to : company injury and illness prevention plan, safe work habits and attitudes, confined space entry, personal fall arrest systems, hazardous communications, the WAFCOR position (to include lock-out / tag-out instruction),etc.
  • Incident Commander-overseas and directs the Confined Space Stand- by Rescue Teams (if applicable).
  • Environmental Supervisor- oversees all associated issues involving environmental situations to include but not limited to : spill and hazard prevention, recordkeeping, hearing conservation and readings (if applicable),etc.Submitrequisitions for parts, special tools, or service to accomplish necessary repairs
  • Supervision and Leadership- directthe activities of assigned personnel.Provide leadership to the people; set priorities, establish and maintain policies, standards and goals; and provide performance-specific counseling as required.Evaluate performance in accordance with Company policies and procedures with particular attention on Safety and Environmental. Audits the companys safety techniciansto maintain compliance withNAVSEA standard items, Federal, and California OSHA requirements.Provides coordination forman powerfor the safety department.
  • Reporting of Hazardous waste to all local and government entities.
  • Address correct timecard data as well as time keeping accruals.
  • Response to all ESH corrective actions and needs or as directed by supervisor.
  • Must adhere toa promoteALL company safety policies. Wear all required PPE when in Production areas and promote a clean and safe work environment.

Knowledge, Skills, Capabilities :

  • Several general areas, of many, of concernare : life and safety codes, safe work practices, personal protective equipment, slips, trips and fall protection, fire protection, confined space entry, hazardous communication standards, insulation and coatings, electrical safety, equipment, etc. Perform required facility audits and inspections both internally and with regulatory inspectors.

  • Employeemust be able to evaluate the use of various resources and make knowledgeable decisions regarding safety and company standards and policies.
  • Responding to all incidents,accident, injuries and emergencies in facility or any project the company is working.Conducting investigations in all areas as to cause, corrective actions, and ways of prevention, writing reports for such incidents and distributing.
  • Direct Leadership- overseas the safety Leadsmen for all associated equipment and tools required for the job including testing, calibrations and repairs. Equipment includes respirators, rescue gear, meters and monitors, cameras, etc. Further responsibilities also include auditing the Leadsmen maintenance of facility equipment, etc.
  • Knowledge and skills of computer use and programs using Microsoft Windows and Office, especially Word and Excel. Maintain several required databases. Maintain, audit, collect and research Material Safety Data Sheets and library. Research safety and health issues for concerns and gang box topics. Archiving, report writing and maintaining departmental files for ships, subcontractors, etc. Ensure department is properly supplied and maintained.
