The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for cultivating a productive, sustainable, healthy, and accident free workplace by driving a culture of EHS Excellence that embraces EHS and sustainability principles, leading industry practices, and governing regulations. The ability to be a role model and influence employee awareness, engagement, and accountability is a critical requirement of this position. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring EHS systems and initiatives to manage risk and drive continuous and sustainable improvement.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement and promote corporate EHS Excellence system to increase employee awareness, engagement, and accountability to drive continuous improvement and business performance.
  • Assist with the development and execution of programs, policies, and procedures that address occupational injury and illness prevention, risk management, compliance assurance, and environmental protection based on governing regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.), best practice standards (ANSI, NFPA, ACGIH, etc.), data analysis and trend tracking.
  • Ensure compliance EHS regulations and requirements including monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting.
  • Develop and implement training programs that educate stakeholders on EHS policies, procedures, and company standards.
  • Track and monitor EHS and sustainability metrics.
  • Provide EHS support to stakeholders including, but not limited to, incident investigations, ergonomic assessments, and interpretation of EHS regulations.
  • Develop a communication plan using creative delivery methods to educate employees on EHS policies and procedures and their impact and relationship to the business.
  • Promote active participation and ownership in the implementation of environmental, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, and related regulatory and educational programs.
  • Conduct EHS assessments of the physical environment and EHS programs and processes to identify gaps and provide corrective/preventive action recommendations.
  • Coordinate waste management (non-hazardous, hazardous (RCRA), universal, etc.) activities including on-site waste accumulation and storage, inspections, training, recordkeeping/reporting, shipping, and disposal with licensed and reputable waste management vendors in accordance with all local, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain various EHS plans including any associated activities such as establishing response/pollution prevention teams, conducting drills, and operational preparedness
  • Participate as an EHS Committee member.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with local leadership group, including supervisors, managers, directors, and senior leaders to drive a culture of EHS Excellence
  • Represent the organization in community or industry EHS groups.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Competency: A working knowledge of EHS standards and regulations (EPA, OSHA, CFR, NFPA, etc.) and basic Industrial hygiene techniques and principles.

  • Organizational Support: Follows policies and procedures; Completes administrative tasks accurately and timely; Supports organization's goals and values; Supports affirmative action and respects diversity.
  • Judgment: Displays willingness to make timely decisions using sound and accurate judgment; Provides reasoning and justification for decisions; Engages appropriate individuals in decision-making process;
  • Computer Skills: A working knowledge of various computer software and word processing programs such as spreadsheets and databases to include, but not limited to, Microsoft Office.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• 5-7 years of experience in a manufacturing environment required. A preference would be given for previous Environmental Health and Safety experience

• AA/AS degree in industrial safety or hygiene, public health or applicable field is preferred

• Possession of OSHA 10 or OSHA 30-hour certification or must possess within 90 days of hire.

• Possession of RCRA certification or must possess within 90 days of hire.

• Possession of First Response CPR/First Aid certification or must possess within 90 days of hire.


The pay scale for newly hired employees in this position at this location in California is between $66,560 - $90,000. This is based on meeting all of the requirements of the role. The base pay offered for the role may vary depending on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. We are proud to offer competitive benefits in addition to competitive pay.
