Job Location
Camp located at address listed. If preferred, it is possible to start your day at a shuttle stop and ride with campers into camp. You will be compensated for this time. Shuttle stops:
- West End at Elmington Park
- Brentwood/Maryland Farms at Granny White Park
Overview
The Camp Director plays a pivotal role in creating a safe, engaging, and educational environment for campers. This leadership position involves overseeing all aspects of camp operations, including program development, staff management, and ensuring a positive experience for all participants. The ideal candidate will have a passion for education and youth development, along with the ability to inspire and lead a team.
Duties
- Develop and implement camp programs that align with organizational goals and foster love of nature in children
- Supervise camp staff, ensuring they are equipped to provide a safe and enriching experience for all participants.
- Maintain open communication with parents, camp owner, and property manager regarding camp activities and camper progress.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, creating a secure environment for both staff and campers.
- Constantly evaluate program effectiveness through feedback from campers, parents, and staff to continuously improve the camp experience.
Skills
- Camp or similar education program experience required
- Ability to manage behavior in a positive manner while keeping the camp experience light and fun
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide staff while maintaining a collaborative team environment
- Excellent communication skills to engage effectively with campers, parents, and staff members
- Science/nature background preferred; passion for outdoor recreation preferred
Physical Requirements:
This position requires the ability to listen to others, observe others’ actions, read text and information; comprehend instructions and manuals, and physical ability to move about the camp property in various environmental conditions including walking on uneven surfaces, sitting, squatting, crawling and jumping. May be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
