About Leadership Initiatives

Leadership Initiatives empowers young leaders through immersive educational experiences, connecting high school interns with real-world projects to inspire personal and professional growth. Our programs offer students hands-on experience, mentorship, and guidance to help them define their academic and career goals.

Who We’re Looking For

We are seeking an exceptionally organized and detail-driven Program Manager who thrives in fast-paced, dynamic environments — someone who can think on their feet, pivot gracefully, and maintain laser-sharp attention to detail even when juggling multiple moving parts.

Experience living or working abroad, especially in resource-limited settings such as Sub-Saharan Africa or other diverse international environments, is strongly preferred. Candidates with this type of experience tend to excel in our programs due to their adaptability, cultural awareness, and ability to work creatively through unexpected challenges.

This role is ideal for someone with a background in education, camp leadership, youth development, or curriculum design, with a strong passion for hands-on learning and mentorship.

Candidates with a background working in sub-Saharan Africa or other low-resource, cross-cultural environments are also encouraged to apply, as this experience cultivates the adaptability, creative problem-solving, and go-with-the-flow mindset critical to our work.

Key Responsibilities

Program Planning & Implementation

  • Design and deliver engaging, experiential learning curriculum for high school students participating in summer and year-round programs.

  • Collaborate with guest speakers, facilitators, and educators to create interactive workshops that reflect global perspectives.

  • Manage program logistics with exceptional attention to detail, ensuring all schedules, student accommodations, and safety protocols are flawlessly executed.

  • Cultivate an environment where students feel challenged, inspired, and supported in defining their personal and professional goals.

Summer Program Leadership (On-Site)

  • Serve as On-Site Program Director at Georgetown University, overseeing day-to-day operations, student safety, and team coordination.

  • Think quickly and adapt when unexpected situations arise — always maintaining a calm, solutions-oriented approach.

  • Mentor students as they navigate career exploration, offering guidance grounded in real-world experience and global perspectives.

Year-Round Curriculum Development

  • Develop and enhance project-based learning modules that emphasize global citizenship, leadership, and real-world problem solving.

  • Create staff training materials to ensure all facilitators deliver consistent, high-quality educational experiences.

  • Work closely with our international partners to infuse cross-cultural learning into all program materials.

Team Collaboration & Training

  • Provide hands-on support and training to seasonal staff, ensuring they understand program goals, curriculum delivery, and student engagement strategies.

  • Actively participate in team meetings, professional development, and curriculum review processes.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, youth development, international studies, business administration, or a field related to our internship programs.

  • Experience working directly with high school students in a teaching, camp leadership, or mentoring role.

  • Demonstrated experience managing programs or events with multiple stakeholders and complex logistics.

  • Exceptional attention to detail, especially in areas like scheduling, written communication, curriculum creation, and follow-through.

  • Ability to think on your feet and stay calm when plans change — this happens often, and we need someone who sees it as an exciting challenge, not a stressor.

Strongly Preferred

  • Experience living or working abroad, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa or other culturally diverse and resource-limited settings. Candidates with this background tend to excel due to their adaptability, global mindset, and creative problem-solving skills.

  • Direct experience facilitating cross-cultural learning experiences or working with international partners.

  • Background in graphic design or content creation to support visually engaging curriculum materials.

  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to create clear timelines, checklists, and systems to keep programs on track.

What Sets This Role Apart

This is not your typical desk job. Our programs evolve constantly based on student needs, global partnerships, and real-time events. The right candidate will embrace this fluidity, combining sharp attention to detail with big-picture flexibility. If you thrive in environments where every day is different — and if you have the global mindset, creativity, and resilience to thrive when the unexpected happens — this is the role for you.

Final Note

We’re looking for someone who’s excited to jump in, problem-solve, and lead — someone who is just as comfortable creating a training manual as they are mentoring a nervous high school student, or troubleshooting a last-minute change to the speaker lineup. If that sounds like you, we can’t wait to meet you.
