College Access Advocate
The College Access advocate is a full-time position responsible for supporting students in the identification of successful pathways to college.
The incumbent is responsible for the strong leadership to ensure quality service provision and coordination of services to clients including students, families, staff, volunteers and the community at large.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Assist students with the college process
- During junior year, create personalized college plan for each student
- Host financial aid nights going over FAFSA
- Assist students with college applications
- Work with students to create a list of colleges where they would like to apply.
- Track progress of applications and effectiveness of application
- Collaborate with partner organizations
- Direct and detailed contact with seniors every week
- Explore scholarship opportunities for students to apply to
- Find opportunities for students to make summer successful.
- Secure college visits (fly in programs, summer programs, etc)
Lead students on a pathway to academic students
- Direct/detailed contact with students every 2 weeks
- Check and log grades for each student
- Create course pathways for each student
- Includes full academic plan of courses, number of APs and honors classes
- Collaborate with counselors, teachers, and stakeholders to advocate for students
- Encourage tutoring for students
- Log and analyze student progress
- Grades, attendance, applications
Assist students in the social and personal growth
- Direct/detailed contact with students every 2 weeks
- Create events for LYTE students to engage in
- College and career oriented
- Fun and social oriented
§ 2-3 events per year
Engage with families
- Ensure parents are aware of the progress of the students
- Make families aware of any scholarships available, events, opportunities, etc.
- Conversations with a parent every month (juniors-seniors) no matter the progress
- Conversation with parent/guardian
Form Relationships with Partners
- Form relationships with colleges and universities
- Create MOUs with colleges and universities
- Host colleges events- college fairs
- Bring best practices of applications with you
Tracking Data
- Collect data on each student and log specific information
- This includes but is not limited to
- Grades, standardized test scores, progress of applications, contact logs,
Collaborate with High School Advocacy Team
- Ensure other advocates are doing their meetings with students
- Meet with other advocates to review their performance and data.
- Train advocates on application process for college
Requirements for successful candidates:
- Bachelor Degree
- Ability to develop and implement training programs
- Experience with outcomes and evaluation, grant compliance, and program development
- Proficiency in data collection and reporting
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to effectively build and motivate individuals and teams
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and communities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and other computer software
- Oral and written fluency in one or more languages preferred
Preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of college admission program process and requirements (preferably as an admissions officer or counselor)
- Two (2) years of experience in the fields of career development, college counseling, student advocacy or other empowerment based models
- Experience with counseling/career development
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $46,000.00 - $48,000.00 per year
