What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Manager position at LeafGuard?
JOB SUMMARY:
Assists in the implementation and performance of LeafGuard’s Safety Program to ensure a safe, injury and incident-free work environment. This includes the implementation and evaluation of safety initiatives, injury and illness prevention strategies, safe working practices, program development/enhancement and all safety education and training that increases employee hazard awareness.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
· Collaborates with company leaders and employees to enhance LeafGuard’s Safety Culture
· Visits production and jobsite areas on a regular basis to establish EHS presence and provide support
- Assists the Production Managers and General Managers by suggesting safe work practices as part of preplanning and training; communicates jobsite safety procedures
- Assists in orienting all crewmembers to the safety practices required on a project and by LeafGuard.
- Participates in pre-construction and handoff meetings
- Conducts comprehensive Jobsite Safety Audits and documents unsafe conditions/activities/equipment; ensures corrective measures are immediately implemented and/or follows through to ensure corrections have been made according to company, industry and regulatory safety and health standards.
- Assists the General Managers and Production Managers in completing the weekly Jobsite Safety Audits
- Educates project personnel through “on-the-spot” training and Tailgate Meetings
- Communicates constantly with the Regional Directors, General Managers and Production Managers and crewmembers as it relates to both good and bad safety practices that are observed.
· Assists in administration of LeafGuard’s Safety Program including Blood borne Pathogens, Confined Space, Control of Hazardous Energy (LOTO), Emergency Action Plans, Fall Protection, HazCom / GHS, Hearing Conservation, Personal Protective Equipment, Lead, Respiratory Protection, Walking Working Surfaces, etc.
- Performs New-hire Orientation Safety Training
- Assists in Incident Reporting and Incident Investigation, as needed; may accompany an injured employee for treatment and medical evaluation
· Develops and delivers health and safety training programs and media, which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness
· Coordinates and supports Safety Committees
- Schedules, tracks and supports EHS training requirements
· Assists with Environmental and Hazardous Waste programs
- Tracks information needed for the Employee Safety Recognition Program
- Accompanies all safety, health and insurance inspectors on walk through tours; coordinates/assists in preparing written appeals for safety violation citations
- Coordinates project safety programs with subcontractors
- Assists the Superintendent in investigating property damage and personal injury complaints
- Ensures compliance with contractual obligations, if applicable
- Assists in maintaining safety files and records
- Ensures company policies and procedures are understood and implemented consistently
- Actively looks for ways to identify safer processes and reduce losses
- Develops and continually improves the effectiveness of the department’s procedures
- Communicates and reinforces the Company vision, values and goals
- Performs additional assignments as directed by the Director of EHS
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Occupational Health & Safety degree (preferred) from four-year College or University, or applicant must have a minimum of five to ten years of construction safety experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present training and other information and respond to questions from workers, managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS
· Bachelor’s degree (or Masters) in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Chemical, Environmental, Mechanical Engineering, Risk Management or closely related field from an accredited college or university (Preferred).
· 7-10 years of relevant experience which includes developing, leading, maintaining and sustaining EHS programs across a multi-location scale, and any of the following preferred certifications:
- Certified Safety Professional (Board of Certified Professionals)
- CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician)
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (American Board of Industrial Hygiene)
- Associate in Risk Management (Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriters)
- Any other related professional designation pertinent to EHS management
· Strong visionary, communication and leadership skills to promote environmental, health and safety to all levels of the organization
· Ability to speak effectively with larger audiences regarding various EHS subjects and emerging trends
· Manage multiple projects simultaneously and effectively utilizing all available resources to exceed expectations
· Demonstrates strategic orientation, problem solving and critical thinking
· Travel for extended periods of time globally
· Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
· Must be eligible to obtain security clearance if needed.
· Must be able to climb ladders, stairs and scaffolds as required to perform inspections.
· Must be able to work outdoors in various and sometimes extreme weather conditions.
· Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
· OSHA Outreach Trainer certification preferred.
· First Aid / CPR Trainer certification preferred.
· Advance knowledge of construction safety standards
· Experience developing a Site-Specific Safety Plan
· Must have experience in teaching Fall Protection, Scaffolding, Steel Erection, and Excavation classes
· Must have a current Driver’s License
· Must have Proof of Insurance
COMPUTER SKILLS
Ability to use Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) with little or no difficulty.
