The League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates (LSCU & Affiliates) is looking to hire a full-time Manager of Governmental Affairs to join the Advocacy Team. The Manager of Governmental Affairs serves as the leader of Governmental Affairs for LSCU in Georgia. This role involves conducting research and analysis, managing lobbying activities in the Georgia Legislature, and assisting with lobbying for the Georgia Congressional delegation as needed. The manager will prepare reports, promote, and conduct speaking engagements, and support the Chief Advocacy Officer as the liaison to the Georgia Advocacy Committee. Collaboration with the regulatory, political, grassroots, and compliance teams is essential, as this position will have significant interaction with Georgia credit unions. The focus will be approximately 70% on lobbying and 30% on political activities, including Political Action Committees (PACs), grassroots, and electioneering efforts.

As the Manager of Governmental Affairs, you will oversee a proactive agenda focused on industry-driven state legislative and regulatory issues. Your responsibilities will include promoting the passage of the LSCU Advocacy Agenda in the General Assembly and monitoring legislative and regulatory developments that affect credit unions and the financial services sector. You will develop and maintain relationships with key legislators, regulatory bodies, government officials, and advocacy groups in Georgia. Additionally, you will represent credit unions' interests at legislative hearings, meetings, and events, and organize grassroots lobbying efforts by coordinating member participation in advocacy campaigns. Providing analysis and summaries of legislative activities to internal and external stakeholders will be essential, as will assisting in the coordination of PAC activities, including fundraising and donor outreach. You will also prepare written reports, position statements, and testimony for legislative presentations and regulatory meetings.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in political science, public relations, or a related field.
  2. 5-7 years of experience in the state legislative process, either as a staff member for an elected official or in governmental affairs with a trade association or lobbying firm.
  3. Strong ability to analyze and interpret legislation to assess its potential impact on credit unions.
  4. Experience in developing, implementing, and managing projects both independently and as part of a team.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Adobe products.

Work Schedule:

The standard work schedule for the Manager of Governmental Affairs is Monday through Friday, with occasional commitments during evenings and weekends. This position involves frequent travel, primarily within Georgia, and may require airline travel as well. A valid driver's license is required. The salary is $70k , depending on experience.
