What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Organizer position at League of Women Voters of New Jersey?
The League of Women Voters of New Jersey, a nonpartisan political nonprofit, works to empower voters and defend democracy. Founded over 100 years ago, we make democracy work by protecting voting rights and encouraging robust participation. We envision a people-powered democracy actively dismantling systemic racism and removing all barriers to full participation in our government. The Community Organizer works to empower and mobilize League members and the communities we serve.
Goals and Responsibilities:
The League is seeking a full-time Community Organizer to mobilize members, supporters, volunteers, organizations, and the public. This person will play an important role in implementing the League’s civic engagement and voter education goals ahead of the 2025 Gubernatorial election and beyond. With the support and guidance of other program staff, the Community Organizer will:
- Lead GOTV and voter engagement efforts. This includes leading, mobilizing, and participating in door-to-door nonpartisan deep canvassing and text banking campaigns.
- Build and support community coalitions aimed at increasing on the ground voter engagement and building community power
- Organize the League’s voter education efforts to increase high quality voter education materials to New Jersey’s diverse communities and improve voter turnout for low-propensity and marginalized voters
- Using organizing and power-building tactics, foster greater candidate accountability and accessibility
- Offer organizing support to help achieve legislative, advocacy, and program wins
- Grow volunteer leadership and capacity at the state and local levels
- Create and conduct impactful trainings that empower members and the public to take action on priority League initiatives

· 1-2 years of organizing/canvassing experience or equivalent education preferred
· Organized, strategic, detail oriented and driven to meet goals
· A confident and comfortable public speaker
· Proficiency using and building campaigns in VAN and textbanking platforms
This is a hybrid position. The position requires travel throughout the state during and outside of normal business hours and requires evening and weekend organizing/canvassing work. The work week is 37.5 hours.
