What are the responsibilities and job description for the CULINARY ARTS TEACHER position at LEAGUE SCHOOL FOR AUTISM?
League School for Autism is an award-winning, year-round program dedicated to the education of children on the autism spectrum. Our team approach to education creates a collaborative, supportive and open environment within our community. We are currently seeking a CULINARY ARTS TEACHER. Annual salary starts at $60,000 with additional compensation based on degree status and certification, plus a $2,000 SIGN-ON BONUS to be paid after 60 days.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree and experience in vocational services for the special needs population required with current MA teaching certification. Experience with autistic population and demonstrated interpersonal skills, and knowledge of kitchen/cooking requirements.
- Safety Care, CPR, and First Aid certifications. (League School will provide training).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must pass rigorous background checks, including nationwide fingerprint screening.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Develops and monitors cooking opportunities for students within the school.
- Works with specialists and teachers to implement language, communication, organization, and sensory/fine motor accommodations and goals into the kitchen/school store setting.
- Develops a cooking curriculum for the vocational program, including goals and objectives of the program, recipes, assessment, etc.
- Collects and records data regarding student performance in all skill areas as directed.
- Develops a therapeutic and effective relationship with students: uses appropriate voice modulation, sets reasonable boundaries with communication and actions, etc.
- Implements positive reinforcement, breaks, time outs, etc., as designed by the Behavior Department and the team.
- Monitors health and safety of students and follows through with the School Nurse on incidents requiring medical attention.
- Functions as a team member. Attends supervision, staff meetings, and annual review meetings, as assigned. Comes prepared with agenda and ready to discuss issues and solutions.
- Consults with Head Teachers to develop appropriate vocational goals and objectives for Individual Educational Plans. Completes written reports, as needed: Incident Reports, Accident Reports, Quarterly Progress Reports, Individual Education Programs and Re-evaluation Reports.
- Participates in all trainings, as required by League School.
- Performs other related duties, as designated by the Vocational Manager, Director of Education, or Coordinator of Vocational and Career Services, that are deemed necessary for the operation of the school, such as evening trainings, Open House, etc.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Microsoft Internet Explorer.
