POSITION: Senior Operations Manager
JOB LOCATION: Rockbridge, VA
REPORTS TO: Plant Manager
DIRECT REPORTS: 3 Production Supervisors

Position Overview
The Sr. Operations Manager has direct responsibility for daily production operations in their area of the building. They report to the Plant Manager and will collaborate directly to set the vision for the plant, implement 80/20 and Lean principles, and ensure a safe work environment while maximizing profitable growth. The Operations leader will drive quality improvements while optimizing operating costs, inventories, and lead times.
This role will oversee day-to-day activities to meet daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual operating plans. This includes developing long- and short-range plans to assure the manufacturing areas are aligned with strategies using 80/20 and lean principles as the basis for continuous improvement. This position assures that manufacturing resources are properly managed to meet customer needs in a cost-effective manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Executing production plans to meet the required schedule at a satisfactory cost level, including cost center, budget, manpower plans, systems developments, and asset management
- Developing and executing a comprehensive Lean transformation strategy in alignment with the company’s vision and goals, including establishing clear KPIs to measure effectiveness of Lean initiatives
- Promoting, utilizing, and driving the Daily Management System (to ensure an efficient and effective operating system is in place
- Providing development and guidance to the hourly and salaried workforce through proper coaching, partnering, and relationship-building
- Promoting effective Health, Safety, and Environmental programs and practices, ensuring that high standards of site safety are established and followed by all associates in the operation; driving process standardization by monitoring all injuries, near misses, etc.
- Responsible for appropriate personnel planning during peak and non-peak operations to balance customer need and cost goals
- Providing ongoing analysis of manufacturing area operating results and corrective action to meet or exceed planned performance levels of quality, expense, efficiency and inventory control
- Collaborating with engineering and design teams to align production capabilities with product specifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field; MBA preferred
- Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment including fabrication, assembly, and/or production teams
- Dedicated experience implementing and utilizing Lean fundamentals including Kanban and Daily Management
- HVAC or industrial equipment industry experience beneficial
- Excellent communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Certification or extensive training in Lean Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt) and 80/20
- Proven experience utilizing and deploying Lean tools (Strategy Deployment, Value Stream Mapping, 6S, Standard Work, FMEA, Problem Solving, Kanban, Visual Daily Management, etc.)
- Excellent leadership skills including strong communication, presentation, problem solving, and facilitation
- Proficient in manufacturing software and ERP systems
