Job Title: Head of Human Resources
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer
Position Summary:
The Head of Human Resources is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all HR policies, programs, and practices to support the strategic goals and operational needs of the construction company. This role ensures compliance with labor laws and regulations, fosters a positive work environment, and aligns HR initiatives with business objectives to attract, develop, and retain top talent.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement HR strategies aligned with the company’s mission, vision, and goals.
- Provide guidance on workforce planning to meet the demands of construction projects and seasonal labor fluctuations.
- Develop diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives to foster a diverse workplace.
Recruitment and Talent Management
- Oversee recruitment strategies to attract skilled professionals, including construction managers, skilled tradespeople, and administrative staff.
- Implement onboarding programs to integrate new hires efficiently into the company’s culture and operations.
- Manage employee development programs, including training, certifications, and leadership development for employees in construction-related roles.
Employee Relations and Performance Management
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures to ensure a fair and consistent work environment.
- Address employee concerns, resolve conflicts, and promote a positive and productive workplace.
- Oversee performance evaluation processes and assist managers with setting performance goals and improvement plans.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, including OSHA standards specific to the construction industry.
- Develop and enforce safety policies and procedures in collaboration with the safety officer to minimize workplace injuries.
- Oversee workers’ compensation claims and manage relationships with insurance providers.
Compensation and Benefits
- Develop competitive compensation structures, including wage scales for construction crews and project managers.
- Oversee benefits programs such as health insurance, 401(k), and wellness initiatives.
- Conduct salary benchmarking to ensure competitive pay in the construction industry.
HR Operations
- Oversee payroll and HRIS systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of employee data.
- Manage HR budgets and provide regular reports to leadership on HR metrics and trends.
- Lead the company’s succession planning initiatives.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- 8 years of HR experience, with at least 5 years in a managerial or leadership role.
- Experience in the construction or related industries is strongly preferred.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of labor laws, construction industry regulations, and HR best practices.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to handle complex challenges and develop creative solutions.
- Proficient in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Certifications (Preferred):
- Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).
- SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP).
Work Environment:
- Combination of office and field environments with occasional visits to construction sites.
- May involve exposure to construction hazards and requires adherence to safety protocols
Salary : $140,000 - $175,000
