JOB SUMMARY
The Childcare Director oversees the operations of the Learn ‘n Move Childcare Program ensuring a safe, healthy and caring environment is provided to the children served. The Director is responsible for managing the work of the Learn ‘n Move team members, coaching and mentoring them to ensure effective implementation of the children’s schedules, curriculum and associated activities. This includes play and physical activity in a holistic approach in the development of children. The Director also ensures utilization of best practices in child development and learning to achieve high quality childcare.
QUALIFICATIONS (minimum requirements)
Education and/or years’ experience required:
- All candidates must meet North Dakota’s minimum Childcare Center director qualifications. Minimum qualifications of childcare center director.'
- Hold at least one of the following qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in the field of early childhood education or child development;
- A bachelor's degree with at least six months of experience in a childcare center or similar setting and one of the following:
- Eight semester hours or twelve quarter hours of department-approved early childhood education or child development;
- One hundred twenty hours of department-approved early childhood training; or
- A director's credential approved by the department;
- An associate's degree in the field of early childhood education or child development with at least six months of experience in a childcare center or similar setting;
- An associate's degree with at least one year of experience in a childcare center or similar setting and one of the following:
- Eight semester hours or twelve quarter hours of department-approved early childhood education or child development;
- One hundred twenty hours of department-approved early childhood training; or
- A director's credential approved by the department;
- A teaching certificate in elementary education with at least six months of experience in a childcare center or similar setting;
- A current certification as a child development associate or successful completion of a department-approved diploma program with emphasis in early childhood or childcare, with at least one year of experience in a childcare center or similar setting; or
- Certification from a Montessori teacher training program with at least one year of experience in a Montessori school, childcare center, or similar setting and at least one of the following:
- Eight semester hours or twelve quarter hours of department-approved child development or early childhood education;
- One hundred twenty hours of department-approved early childhood training; or
- A director's credential approved by the department
Supervision of others/decision making aptitude (if applicable): This position has overall supervisory responsibilities for all staff of Learn ‘n Move childcare.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITES
- Excellent communication skills with families and children
- Manages and maintains annual childcare licensure for Learn ‘n Move and adheres to all licensure requirements
- Demonstrates understanding of talent management including recruiting and retention of staff as well as performance management
- Oversee curriculum development and implementation with the Curriculum Leader
- Demonstrates strong knowledge and experience in working with children of all abilities
- Demonstrates understanding of the importance of play and physical activities and assist with development and implementation
- Demonstrates understanding of best practices in childcare environments
- Oversee external vendors and contracts, i.e... financial, food services, etc.
- Develops and manages the annual budget
- Develops Director’s report and agendas for the Learn ‘n Move Board meetings
- Demonstrates understanding of the relationship between the Director and the Learn ‘n Move Board of Directors
- Reports to the Learn ‘n Move Board of Directors to include financial performance, budget adherence, utilization, childcare census, etc.
- Adhere to work schedule and maintain regular attendance.
- Upholds the Learn ‘n Move ethical standards and demonstrate the behavioral and service expectations as defined in policies and procedures.
- Successfully completes required training and educational requirements per State, Federal, local health codes as required by the NDDHHS
- Performs other duties as requested by the Board of Directors
