Assistant Head Start Teacher

Position: Learning Avenues Child Care Centers, a non-profit center, is hiring a Head Start Assistant Teacher. This position works with students age 3-5 years preparing them for kindergarten. This is a full-day, full year position.

Head Start Assistant Teacher Qualifications:

· Certificate of Proficiency in Early Childhood Education from an accredited college or current CDA certificate OR enrolled in a program leading to an CDA,AA or BA in ECE OR Enrolled in a program leading to a Washington State ECE Initial Certificate.

AND

· 1 year experience with groups of children ages 3-5 years in an early childhood setting.

Required skills:

· Pass Criminal Background Check which may include fingerprinting

· Pass TB test

· Register in the Merit system with DCYF and have a STARS Id number

· Pass a pre-employment health screening indicating freedom from communicable diseases.

· Attend and complete all mandatory trainings and certifications required by DCYF and/or Head Start performance standards including but not limited to 30 hour Child Care Basics, Disaster Preparedness, HIV/Bloodborne Pathogen, Child Abuse/Neglect, Families Experiencing Homelessness, Abusive Head Trauma and ongoing professional development of 10 STARS hours per year.

· First Aid/CPR certified

· HIV/AIDS/Bloodborne Pathogen training

· Valid Washington Food Handlers card

· Proof of MMR immunization or equivalent

· Ability to communicate effectively with parents, children, and staff

· Work cooperatively with a Lead Teacher

· Computer skills, including typing, email, data entry, and internet use

· Ability to multi-task

· Record observations of children

· Planning, monitoring, and evaluation

· Professional behavior and conduct

Preferred Experience:

· Head Start or ECEAP Experience

· Knowledge of Creative Curriculum

· Familiarity with TSGOLD & Child Plus online system

· Experience with Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $21.00 per hour
