Associate Teacher for all ages in Gilford

The position of Associate Teacher includes assisting the Lead Teacher in fostering an environment to promote Learning By The Lakes Academy Inc’s core values of learning, passionate, creative, friendship and partnership; as well as the mission statement of Learning By The Lakes Academy Inc’s “to make learning creative, engaging and exciting for all children”. Lead teachers will prepare lesson plans that are engaging and interactive to the age group they are teaching.

Essential Duties and Functions:

1.    Day to Day Caretaker

a.    Assist in creating a safe and welcoming environment for children in your care

b.    Change children’s diapers every two hours or more often as needed.

c.    Take potty-trained children to the restroom on an as-needed basis. 

d.    Comfort children that are struggling with any aspects of their self-regulation’s ability (feelings sad, angry, hurt etc.)

e.    Report any injuries to the director immediately and provide care according to your ability.

f.       Assist children in falling asleep – this may include rubbing their backs, rocking or playing quiet music. 

2.    Education and Behavior Management 

a.    Assist the lead teacher in executing the lesson plans they have prepared

b.    Help to create an environment that fosters learning through play by having activities available to children all day, every day.

c.    Use appropriate, positive behavior management techniques for children in care

d.    Help to decorate room and create spaces/boards that represent the themes of curriculum

e.    Refrain from negative discipline, yelling, or any type of corporal punishment. This is a zero-tolerance policy and failing to comply with result in immediate termination 

3.    Training/Compliance

a.    Follow policy, procedures and child care licensing rules

b.    Maintain required training hours (on and off sited) 

c.    Seek out additional training in areas of interest/need

d.    Refrain from using your cellphone in classrooms 

4.    Maintaining Procedures

a.    Maintain appropriate rations in each classroom during the morning hours and/or evening hours

b.    Follow procedures in emergency handbook if an emergency were to arise

c.    Keep doors locked at all times and follow security procedures as outlined in training.

               i.    Be comfortable checking IDs for any unknown guests and follow sign in/out procedure. 

d.    Follow all Policy & Procedures that were reviewed with you during training. 

e.    Familiarizing yourself with the State of New Hampshire Childcare Licensing Book.

Requirements:

Essential qualifications:

·       18 years of age or older

• A high school diploma or GED
• Meet one of the following criteria 
• 9 ECE credits - at least 3 ECE in Growth and Development OR
• 1500 hours supervised in licensed child care program with at least 3 ECE credits in Growth and Development and a written plan on how to complete the remaining 6 ECE Credits OR
• Para II educator by the Department of Education
• Positive Mindset
