General Summary :
Specializes in speech and language delays or disorders to assess, diagnose, treat, and help to prevent communication and swallowing disorders in patients resulting from a variety of causes, such as a stroke, autism (ASD), brain injury, hearing loss, developmental delay, a cleft palate, cerebral palsy, or emotional problems. Caseload will consist of home / community based and / or center-based clients.
Essential Job Functions :
Will evaluate and conduct therapy with qualified program participants as caseload is assigned by program coordinator.
Will develop a program plan with appropriate therapy goals / objectives for each program participant as assigned by the program coordinator.
Will review and assess data treatment plan and performance in order to monitor progress and / or modify or write new plans when appropriate.
Will select augmentative or alternative communication methods for their patients which could include automated devices, sign language, and / or PECS.
Will teach those with little or no speech capability how to articulate sounds or increase their language skills to communicate more effectively.
Will address fluency, voice and / or oral motor or feeding disorders through appropriate therapeutic strategies and interventions.
May serve as consultant to appropriate staff to incorporate speech and language development activities into daily schedule.
Will attend trainings, conferences, meetings and center activities as deemed necessary by the Director of Services, Administrative Assistant, and / or the Program Coordinator.
Will update / maintain all required information / reports as needed to comply with due process, DDS policies, funding sources, and center procedures.
Will counsel with and provide guidance to parents and caregivers regarding generalization of speech / language behaviors in the home.
Will maintain protection of client privacy regarding any information maintained by the organization regarding services and / or operations. Will access only client information needed for the implementation of activities required for this position.
