Learning Opportunities Quality Works is currently seeking a Certified Benefits Specialist to join our dedicated team. This role is ideal for someone passionate about helping individuals with disabilities lead independent, self-directed lives by providing guidance on benefits planning and supporting them in managing their daily staff and services.
Position Overview:
As a Certified Benefits Specialist, you will work closely with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to help them understand and navigate public benefits such as Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare. Additionally, you’ll empower individuals to take an active role in directing their own care—including hiring, managing, and guiding their daily support staff.
You’ll play a crucial role in helping individuals balance their personal goals with financial and program eligibility, promoting independence and informed decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized benefits counseling related to SSI, SSDI, Medicaid, Medicare, and other programs
- Support individuals in understanding how employment and income may affect benefits
- Assist individuals in managing and directing their own daily support staff
- Educate individuals and families on self-directed services and person-centered planning
- Collaborate with support coordinators and community partners to ensure continuity of care and services
- Maintain accurate documentation and compliance with program standards
- Investigate, verify and document information from a variety of external sources efficiently and accurately.
- Implement, track, and report on quality management and enhancement activities related to the services provided

Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in any field is preferred; however, relevant work experience may be substituted meeting DMH requirement
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities preferred
- Strong understanding of public benefits programs (SSI, SSDI, Medicaid, etc.)
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficient in Google Workspace and electronic documentation systems
- Current valid Missouri Driver License and be willing to obtain a Class E license immediately upon hire
- Must possess a reliable vehicle.
- Must pass all required background checks
