Position Summary
Join our innovative Leatherman East team and be at the forefront of creating high-quality, versatile multi-purpose products that our customers love and trust. As a Production Operator III you will operate various advanced machines, including VMCs, Laser Engravers, and Polishers. Essential Functions
- Operate a variety of machinery to fabricate and assemble component parts.
- Perform difficult set-ups and changeovers on equipment to close and complex tolerances and may include numerical control.
- Monitor output and proper operation of mechanical equipment. Makes mechanical and/or program adjustments to ensure parts are meeting quantity and quality requirements as necessary.
- Conduct regular quality audits of parts produced by measuring and inspecting components to tight tolerances.
- Collaborate with a highly motivated team, communicating across all levels to support production needs.
Additional Functions
- Prepare recommendations to modify processes to improve productivity and quality.
- Mix chemical solutions as required for production processes.
- Perform duties of level I and II production operators as necessary, including a variety of machine or assembly processes.
- Clean and prep individual and shared work areas for next production day.
- Train operators in work area as needed.
Education and Experience
- High School diploma or GED required.
- National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) is preferred.
- Two years formal technical training and one year work experience in a manufacturing environment or three years technical job experience with progressively complex machining assignments required, five years preferred.
- Expected to perform all levels I, II, & III of machine operations in the related work area.
- Knowledge and awareness to comply with all standard OSHA and State safety regulations and policies, Lock Out Tag Out procedures for all types of equipment, proper handling of solvents and chemicals according to MSDS sheets, vision, hearing and respiratory protection, and proper lifting techniques as may be required within the scope of the job at hand.
- Advanced machine operation and mechanical knowledge including the ability to set up and change over various types of equipment required.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and production systems preferred.
- Ability to effectively utilize basic shop math skills required.
- Ability to read, comprehend, speak and write English at a level to effectively utilize and interpret MSDS’s, work instructions, and technical manuals.
- Ability to use inspection and measuring devices including calipers, drop indicators, height gauges, micrometers, Keyence and CMM equipment preferred.
- Basic blueprint reading, and computer skills required.
- Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) preferred.
- Demonstrated skills in rate control required.

The employee occasionally stands or walks; climbs; stoops or crouches; and pushes/pulls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
The employee frequently lifts and/or moves up to 5 lbs., and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 55 lbs. The employee frequently pushes/pulls an average of 40 lbs., and occasionally pushes/pulls up to 70 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
Working Conditions/Physical Hazards
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office environment, and occasionally exposed to production environment. Work area is well lit and air conditioned. All employees are expected to adhere to Company safety policies and wear personal protective equipment when exposed to work areas or performing tasks where it is required.
