Title: Summer Grounds Crew Member
Reports to: Grounds Coordinator
Hours: 6:30 - 2:30 pm
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the central office (after employment offer is made).
- Two years’ experience working on a Grounds crew.
- Demonstrated knowledge in the basic techniques of ground maintenance and the ability to run grounds equipment.
- Ability to manually lift a maximum of 60 pounds.
- Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance.
Purpose and Objectives of the Position:
The Grounds crew member is an important member of the district staff as he/she must continually strive to maintain and improve the physical environment in which learning takes place. This effort requires not only his/her assistance as directed by the Grounds Coordinator, but also the ability to “see” needs and correct them without specific direction. In addition he/she will provides a safe, attractive and clean environment to ensure full and productive use of district facilities.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Maintain school grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities.
- Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines.
- Communication Skills (oral, written, or business). Basic communication skills to exchange information, give/receive simple instructions and respond to inquiries. Includes filling out forms.
- Communicate effectively with all members of the school district.
- Reading and Interpreting: Reads and interprets complex written or printed materials such as schematics, blueprints, building plans, charts, diagrams, maps or instruction material.
- React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
- Appropriately operate all equipment and machinery as necessary in a safe and responsible manner.
- Comply with all district policies, rule and regulations.
- Ability to alter schedule for events or possibility of overtime or comp time.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Requires prolong standing or sitting
- Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials, maximum of 60 pounds.
- Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching.
- Requires climbing and balancing.
- Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
- Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous interruptions.
- Must work in and around dust, fumes, and odors.
- Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
General Responsibilities:
- Assist in keeping school grounds in top condition.
- Ability to receive, deliver, and store all school supplies.
- Ability to set up for assemblies, preparing the cafeteria for lunch, moving school personnel and their equipment within the building.
- Ability to exercise appropriate judgment and initiative to handle emergency situations as they arise, along with regular duties.
- Ability to maintain a clean and litter free school grounds.
- Assist in seeding and fertilizing school grounds.
- Prepare athletic fields for practice and games and help with irrigation systems.
- Maintain all equipment properly (includes checking oil and fuel prior to operation)
- Maintain district vans and cars at service center, high school and board office.
- Preform snow removal from school sidewalks, entrances and parking lots.
- Ability to implement the wishes of the school administration to facilitate the smooth operations of the school program.
- Ability to maintain grounds, mowing, and trimming to conform to district standards.
- Ability to observe and follow all school district policies at all times.
- Ability to respond to information requests in a cooperative, courteous, and timely manner.
- Ability to implement and follow all health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Ability to perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the grounds coordinator, or other administrative staff.
- Preform other duties as assigned.
Pre-Employment/Yearly Requirements: Employee shall meet all the pre-employment and yearly requirements as specified in the Policies of the Board of Education.
Term of Employment: At will.
Salary: $12.50/hr, based on the USD #453 Salary Schedule
FLSA Status: Non - Exempt; Hourly
Evaluation: Performance effectiveness will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Board of Education Policy.
