Restorative Nursing Assistant

About the Position

The Restorative Nursing Assistant provides quality, person-centered, restorative, or rehabilitative care to the elders according to the Restorative Care plan and interdisciplinary Care Plan. They perform additional restorative or rehabilitative care tasks as designed by the Restorative Nursing Program Supervisor, and follow established policies and procedures, including safe lifting, in the performance of duties.

Shift: Day shift, 4 to 5 days/week with rotating weekends and holidays

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs restorative nursing tasks such as ambulation, range of motion, positioning, self-feeding, transfers, and bed mobility as per elders Restorative Care Plan.
• Provides individualized attention, which encourages each elders ability to maintain or attain the highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well -being as well as the greatest possible degree of independence.
• Ensures restorative programs are offered to elders a minimum of six days per week
• Is knowledgeable of each elders individualized care plan, and provides support to the elders according to their respective Care Plan. Assists in the implementation of care plans as directed.
• Contributes knowledge of elders conditions/needs to care planning process.
• Lifts, moves, and transports elders, using proper body mechanics or lifting devices as specified in each elders Care Plan. Complies with all requirements for safe lifting and/or safe transfer of elders per established policies and procedures.
• Ensures and maintains the comfort, privacy, and dignity of elders in the delivery of services to them. Interacts with elders in a manner that displays warmth and promotes a caring environment.
• Fully understands all aspects of residents rights, including the right to be free of restraints and free of abuse. Is responsible for promptly reporting to the Charge Nurse, or administrative staff, incidents or evidence of resident abuse or violation of residents rights.
• Assists in maintaining a safe, neat and clean environment; reports environmental deficiencies such as lighting or equipment problems to the Charge Nurse.
• Assists in the care and maintenance of therapy areas and equipment including assuring equipment is clean and in good working order.
• Assists elders at mealtime as needed.
• Informs Restorative Nursing Program Supervisor of any changes in elder condition.
• Functions as a Certified Nursing Assistant when needed.
• Routinely meets with Restorative Nursing Program Supervisor to review status of elders on restorative caseload and discuss any pertinent changes.
• Assists with in-services related to restorative nursing services.
• Assists with orientation of new employees.
• Protects the personal belongings of each elder, including eyeglasses, dentures, hearing aids, furnishings, jewelry, clothing and memorabilia. Promptly reports damaged or missing items according to policy.
• Observes elders for changes in condition or behavior and promptly reports these changes to appropriate licensed nursing staff.
• Answers elders call bells promptly and courteously.
• Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with the elders, visitors, families, peers and supervisors.
• Participates in assigned educational programs and competencies annually and as needed. Attends mandatory in-service programs.
• Completes all necessary documentation related to restorative nursing programs, care provided and other information according to department policy.
• Performs all job responsibilities in accordance with prescribed safety and infection control procedures, including thorough hand washing, use of disposable gloves and personal protective equipment where indicated, and proper disposal of soiled materials.
• Promotes a homelike environment for elders.
• Responds to inquiries relating to her/his particular area or to requests from elders, visitors, and other staff members within given time frames and established policy.

• Valid PA Nursing Assistant certification in good standing.
• Current CPR certification or the ability to obtain.
• Demonstrated keen observation skills.
• Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal sills.
• High School diploma or GED.
• Must follow all universal precautions procedures, including use of personal protective equipment, due to potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
