Schedule:
Full Time: 8:00am – 5:00pm, Monday – Friday
Position Summary:
The Optical Field Service Engineer must work independently and have strong trouble shooting abilities. Needs to have great customer relations skills. Overnight travel may be required with little to no notice. This position requires up to 70% overnight travel including domestic and international. Be able to install, maintain, repair and train on all current Optical products. The Optical Field Service Engineer must be proficient and timely on all paperwork and scheduled customer visits. Primary service area comprised of the Western region with travel to surrounding regions on an as-needed basis. The ideal candidate will reside in one of the Western states (Nevada, Idaho, Oregon or lower Utah). When at home office, may perform technical support for customers via email and or telephone. They must be able to keep and maintain an accurate inventory of replacement parts and consumables.
Position Responsibilities:
- Installation of new Optical/Hardness instrumentation at customer site.
- Final test, inspection and certification of newly installed Optical/Hardness instrumentation.
- Customer training in the operation of Optical/Hardness instrumentation.
- Repair of malfunctioning Optical/Hardness instrumentation at customer site.
- Routine maintenance and certification of customers Optical/Hardness instrumentation.
- May include In-shop repair of Optical/Hardness instrumentation.
- Submit a weekly summary of activities and invoicing along with a weekly expense report.
- Order warranty replacement parts on behalf of LECO customers.
- Obtains an RMA for all parts replaced during warranty service and ensure those parts are returned to St. Joseph, Michigan.
- Enter information into SAP/LMS (or complete and sign Service Reports manually) applications.
- Develop training materials for internal and external customers of Optical/Hardness instrumentation.
- Training of other service engineers on the installation and servicing of Optical/Hardness instrumentation, as required.
- Monitor the due dates of all calibrated and/or certified equipment in their possession.
- Continually look for ways to improve LECO’s products and services.
- Identify product or procedural deficiencies and initiate, recommend, or provide corrective action through designated procedures.
- Inform the Technical Service Department’s Quality Representative of all LECO training and any external job-related training received.
- Follows documented ASTM and ISO/IEC 17025:2017 procedures.
- Any other duties assigned by the Optical Service Manager or National Service Manager.
Position Requirements:
- Valid driver's license
- Must complete on-the-job training (typical 3-6 months in-house training and some onsite training).
- Home office based in one of the Western states.
- Experience preferred in optical instrumentation and/or hardness testing.
- Experience with direct client contact.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills.
- Familiarity with personal computers and Windows software applications.
- Willingness to travel up to 70% overnight domestically and internationally as required.
Education/Certifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Technical degree (or better) or equivalent military training.
