Job Title: Cost Accountant
Job Summary: The Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing and tracking costs associated with production and business operations. This role involves budgeting, forecasting, cost allocation, and providing financial insights to help management make informed decisions on cost control and profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain cost records for production processes, including raw materials, labor, and overhead costs.
- Analyze cost variances and identify reasons for discrepancies between actual and standard costs.
- Assist in developing and maintaining standard cost systems.
- Prepare cost reports for management, highlighting cost-saving opportunities and trends.
- Monitor inventory levels and work closely with the inventory team to ensure accurate costing of materials.
- Support the budgeting and forecasting process by providing accurate cost data.
- Review and ensure accuracy of cost allocations in accordance with financial policies.
- Perform cost analysis to help guide pricing decisions and profitability evaluations.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accurate reporting of costs.
- Collaborate with other departments (such as production, finance, and purchasing) to track cost-related performance.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal control procedures.
- Participate in audits and provide necessary documentation and explanations for cost-related inquiries.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Proven experience as a Cost Accountant or in a similar financial role.
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles and practices.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze data and provide actionable insights.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills to interact with both internal teams and external auditors.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and how they affect cost accounting.
- CPA or CMA certification is a plus.
- Experience with ERP systems is beneficial.
