Position Overview
Ledgent Finance & Accounting's client is actively seeking a dedicated and experienced Sr. Property Accountant to join their team in California. This role involves full-cycle accounting responsibilities for a portfolio of affordable housing properties that serve low-income, homeless, disabled, veterans, and other special needs households. The successful candidate will work closely with the Accounting Manager and/or Assistant Accounting Manager to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports for a portfolio of affordable housing properties, reviewing accounting entries from third-party management companies and making necessary adjustments.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Maintain various supporting workpapers in Excel, including fixed asset schedules, property tax accruals, prepaid insurance, mortgage loan amortization, and partner capital contributions and distributions.
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for multiple accounts.
- Ensure accurate recording and coding of accounts payable to the appropriate general ledger accounts.
- Assist with cash management alongside the Accounting Manager and Assistant Accounting Manager.
- Coordinate wire transfers and ACH payments.
- Calculate and post month-end adjustments, including accruals, intercompany reconciliations, and depreciation.
- Reconcile subledgers on a monthly basis.
- Prepare a comprehensive month-end package to support financial statements.
- Liaise with property managers regarding financial statement inquiries.
- Perform various reconciliations and adjustments as needed.
- Collaborate with external tax preparers and auditors during annual audits and reviews.
- Assist with annual budget uploads to accounting software.
- Lead special projects as assigned, including training staff-level property accountants and implementing new software and processes as approved by management.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
- 3 years of accounting experience, particularly in property management or real estate.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Proficient in Yardi or similar accounting software, with advanced Excel skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to work independently while also collaborating effectively with team members.
- Flexibility, a positive attitude, and the ability to work with minimal supervision are essential.
Monday - Friday, first shift.
Competitive salary of $90,000-$105,000 per year, along with comprehensive benefits.
