Description
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Carpenter Supervisor to manage a staff of 16 people. In this leadership role, you will be responsible for overseeing the preventive maintenance and repair of all carpentry and construction systems across Lee County facilities, including roofing and the lock shop. You will manage daily operations, handle staff schedules, work orders, and collaborate with contractors and vendors to ensure that all carpentry needs, including roofing, drywall, cabinetry, and other construction systems, are met with the highest standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the maintenance, repair, and replacement of all carpentry needs, including roofing, drywall, cabinetry, and other construction systems.
- Develop and manage staff work schedules for a team of 16 carpenters; track employee hours and attendance using KRONOS software.
- Process and review invoices, time cards, and work orders for accuracy and timely approval.
- Collaborate with contractors to obtain work estimates and manage ongoing project timelines and budgets.
- Oversee the procurement and inventory management of materials and carpentry-related equipment.
- Supervise staff on job sites, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and high-quality workmanship.
- Conduct annual performance evaluations, provide feedback, and offer development opportunities to team members.
- Act as the primary point of contact for vendors and other departments to resolve any carpentry-related issues or concerns.
- Investigate and resolve complex or unresolved issues brought to your attention by technicians or contractors.
- Provide training and professional development opportunities to enhance staff technical skills and knowledge of carpentry.
- Schedule and coordinate factory-authorized training seminars for diagnostics on county-owned equipment.
- Collaborate with county engineering and construction teams, and review plans, on the design and implementation of new or remodeled facility carpentry systems.
- Communicate regularly with department heads and leadership to ensure customer satisfaction and system reliability.
Education, Experience, Licensing
- Bachelor’s degree in a trade-related field (such as carpentry, construction management, or mechanical engineering), or equivalent education and experience in a related discipline.
- One year of experience in carpentry construction, maintenance, or a closely related field.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise, train, and mentor a team of carpenters.
- Certification in carpentry or related specialized training.
- Knowledge of carpentry systems, tools, and equipment, with a focus on preventive maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in using time-keeping software for scheduling and tracking work hours.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with contractors, vendors, and other internal departments to resolve issues promptly.
- Ability to read blueprints and schematics for carpentry system designs.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.
- This position requires the ability to pass an NCIC background check and undergo fingerprinting to obtain security clearances from the Lee County Sheriff's Office and the State Attorney's office, in addition to the standard Consumer Report-based background check that is required for conditional offers of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 8 years of experience in carpentry construction, maintenance, or a closely related field.
- Experience with county or government-owned construction systems and large commercial systems.
- Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS) and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Relevant licenses or certifications (e.g., OSHA, etc.).
Supplemental Information
- Work Hours: Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
- May require additional licenses or certifications based on local requirements.
- Familiarity with computer systems and automated carpentry equipment may be required.

All County employees are required to work before, during, or after an emergency as needed. This may include temporarily being assigned to work and performing duties outside of the normal scope of their position, location and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.
