The Lee County Library System is seeking a dynamic and self-motivated professional with a strong background in information technology project management and library system development. In this role, you will lead and oversee technology operations within the Library Department, ensuring that library technology is effectively supported and maintained.

Responsibilities :

Project Management : Spearhead technology projects from inception to completion. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables. Develop detailed project plans, allocate resources, and monitor progress.

Policy Development : Create and implement policies and procedures related to library technology. Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.

Resource Accessibility : Facilitate access to a comprehensive range of library technology and resources for both public use and staff operations.

Leadership and Teamwork : Foster a collaborative environment, working closely with internal stakeholders, IT professionals, and library staff. Provide leadership and mentorship to achieve project goals.

Location : Lee County is on the southwest coast of Florida, along the Gulf Coast. It’s approximately 125 miles south of Tampa, 115 miles west of Fort Lauderdale via Interstate 75, and roughly 125 miles west-northwest of Miami via U.S. Highway 41.

Population : As of the 2020 census, Lee County had a population of 760,822, making it the eighth-most populous county in Florida. In 2022, the population increased to 822,453.

Duties and Responsibilities

Technology Planning and Goals :

Collaborate with the Library Management team to create a comprehensive technology plan. Identify specific goals, such as improving user experience, enhancing staff efficiency, or expanding services.

Consider factors like budget constraints, resource availability, and community needs when setting technology-related objectives.

Budget Recommendations :

Regularly review the technology budget and expenditures. Provide informed recommendations to optimize spending.

Work with the County IT Department to prioritize critical technology investments, such as upgrading hardware, software licenses, or new technology.

Statistical Analysis and Enhancements :

Analyze library technology trends by collecting relevant data. Use statistical tools to identify patterns, assess usage, and anticipate future needs.

Envision enhancements, such as implementing a new self-checkout system, improving Wi-Fi coverage, or improving workflows and customer service.

Project Management for Technology Initiatives :

Manage complex technology projects, ensuring they align with library goals. Develop detailed project plans, allocate resources, and track progress.

Consider projects like after-hours holds lockers, off site material vending machines or launching a mobile app for library services.

Collaboration with County’s Technology Department :

Foster a strong working relationship with the County’s Technology Department. Regular communication and collaboration are essential.

Coordinate joint initiatives, share best practices, and explore opportunities for shared resources.

Staff Training and Support :

Plan training sessions for library staff on new or enhanced technologies. Ensure they are comfortable using tools and systems.

Provide ongoing technical assistance, mentoring, and work direction to address any challenges.

Service Evaluation and Process Improvement :

Solicit feedback from both staff and library users regarding technology services. Use this input to identify pain points and areas for improvement.

Develop clear procedures for handling technology-related tasks, such as troubleshooting, software updates, and equipment maintenance.

Education, Experience, Licensing

Education and Experience :

You’ll need a combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year university or college.

The relevant fields include Project Management, Information Technology, Computer Science, Public Administration, Business Administration, Library Science or a closely related degree.

Two years of related work experience in technology project management, library technology, or a closely related field.

Preferred Experience :

It’s beneficial if you have two years of experience working with Library Technology.

Strong project management, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Licensing :

Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.

Possession of a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute is preferred.

  • Your workdays will be Monday through Friday, from 8 : 00 a.m. to 5 : 00 p.m.
