The expected salary range for this position is between $17.00 to $21.50 hourly.
Lee County is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a Paratransit Operations Specialist position at LeeTran.
This position is responsible for performing dispatch/clerical functions, providing instructions and directions to bus drivers, and ensuring that buses are operated safely while keeping in mind on-time performance and overall efficiency.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinates and dispatches all bus operator assignments for revenue service, special events and emergency response.
- Schedules and directs the activities of bus drivers to ensure effective and efficient operations.
- Interprets and successfully maneuvers traffic pattern flows and potential road hazards. Reads, interprets, and monitors bus drivers' routes, schedules, and manifests.
- Identifies and reports equipment malfunctions and safety hazards.
- Verifies and monitors vehicle locations.
- Advises bus drivers utilizing two-way radio systems, telephone, computer equipment, and software applications, providing instruction and information regarding scheduling and route changes.
- Utilizes RouteMatch and/or other transit software.
- Instructs bus drivers on procedures to adjust schedules as needed.
- Answers and responds to all calls and service requests promptly and with courtesy.
- Provides information to the public in a courteous manner regarding transit services.
- Communicate with supervisors regarding passengers, stops, terminals, and employee performance, and provide feedback to the Supervisors, Senior Supervisors, Operations Manager, or designee to assist with performance evaluations.
- Identifies and reports operational problems and incidents to supervisors.
- Makes recommendations and proposes solutions to operational issues.
- Maintains lost and found log.
- Assists schedulers and reservationists when necessary.
- Prepares and maintains manual and computerized files, reports, and records including daily operation logs and incident reports.
- Maintains, supports, and promotes a safe work environment while complying with all safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure the well-being of customers and employees.
- Initiates the emergency notification list.
- Coordinates with local and regional agencies to provide quick responses to potential emergency situations.
- May serve as staff representative to the Emergency Operations Center in the event of a declared emergency.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, Licensing
- Requires any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to graduation from high school or GED and one year of experience in transit operations, dispatching, and/or the operation of passenger buses.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record is required.
- Must be able to pass a Florida Department of Transportation Medical Examination and maintain a current medical card.
- This is a safety-sensitive position that is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing as provided in DOT regulations 49 CFR Part 40 and 49 CFR Part 655.
Supplemental Information
- Experience in transit operations, including dispatch and transit software knowledge preferred.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, stoop, bend, sit for long periods of time, load and unload wheelchair passengers, and secure wheelchairs inside the bus with wheelchair tie-downs.
- Ability to utilize and knowledge of two-way radio procedures and codes.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of county employees.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with the general public and County personnel.
- Ability to drive a paratransit van, passenger bus, or trolley, depending upon the area of assignment. Knowledge of Transit system operations, rules, and regulations, including bus operation, pre-trip inspection, routes, and schedules.
- Compassionate demeanor with the ability to work in a sensitive manner with passengers with various disabilities.
- Strong computer skills and ability to use general office equipment Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative in daily activities.
Work Schedule: LeeTran operates seven days a week, including some holidays. Normal hours of operation are 3:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. Days and hours of work will vary across all hours of operation.
EMERGENCY RESPONSE/RECOVERY ACTIVITIES:
All County employees are required to work before, during, or after an emergency as needed. This may include temporarily being assigned to work and performing duties outside of the normal scope of their position, location and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.
