What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Driver, Paratransit position at Lee County Government?

- Transports passengers in a safe and timely manner while complying with local traffic regulations.
- Loads, secures, and unloads passengers at stops; meets and greets passengers in a courteous manner.
- Assists customers by providing route information; collects fare; regulates heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.
- Maintains familiarity and compliance with ADA requirements; provides safe transport of disabled passengers by securing wheelchairs and escorting passengers to and from vehicle; monitors and ensures the safety of all passengers.
- Performs vehicle and equipment inspection including general maintenance and safety checks.
- Completes daily fare reconciliation, reports and paperwork.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Requires any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to graduation from high school or GED.
- Transit Bus Drivers must be able to pass a Florida Department of Transportation Medical Examination and maintain a current medical card.
- This is a safety-sensitive position which is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing as provided in DOT regulation CFR-Part 40, 49 CFR Part 655.
- Will be required to undergo a fingerprint based background check in addition to the standard Consumer Report based background check that is required for all conditional offers of employment.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.
- Prefer one year of experience in the operation of a bus or heavy automotive equipment, including public contact work.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, stoop, bend, sit for long periods of time, load and unload wheelchair passengers and secure wheelchairs inside the bus with wheelchair tie downs.
- Ability to drive in all weather conditions and at night.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment in daily activities.
- Drivers must be able to work in a sensitive manner with passengers who may have various disabilities.
- Ability to utilize onboard technology, including mobile data tablets and GPS.
- LeeTran operates seven days a week, including some holidays. Normal hours of operation are 4:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. Day and evening shifts available. Shift schedules vary and routes are selected by seniority.
- Employee must be able to work any job assignment scheduled.
- Evening shifts offer shift differential with additional compensation.
