About the Department of Natural ResourcesThe Natural Resources laboratory, boasting NELAP/TNI certification from the State of Florida, conducts rigorous testing for 44 potable and 53 non-potable analytes. To uphold our certification, the laboratory engages in proficiency testing biannually and undergoes a comprehensive audit biennially. Lab analysts are responsible for performing a wide variety of analyses on matrices such as drinking water, wastewater, surface water, groundwater, and marine waters. Equipped with specialized instruments for the analysis of metals, nutrients, primary/secondary pollutants, and biological samples, the lab is at the forefront of environmental testing. - Follow Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures approved under NELAC/TNI, 40 CFR, and EPA to maintain lab certification.
- Conduct analysis for various parameters using instruments and equipment such as Nutrients, Metals, Trace metals (ICP and ICPMS), Solids, and bacteriological testing.
- Apply basic laboratory practices for inorganic chemistry and microbiological examination.
- Evaluate and interpret analytical and environmental data.
- Adhere to the laboratory's formal quality control program requirements.
- Demonstrate proficiency in importing and exporting data through a LIMS system using Excel and Word.
- Perform laboratory maintenance, including equipment upkeep, documentation in electronic maintenance logs, data evaluation, and calibrations.
- Review and update method-based Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for each analysis performed.
- Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and two years of experience performing chemical and bacteriological analysis, preparing a variety of reagents and media, and using specialized laboratory instruments or closely related work experience.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.
- Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Biology, or a closely related field.
- Completion of sixteen (16) college semester credit hours in general microbiology and biology.
- Previous experience in a TNI/NELAC-certified laboratory.
- Familiarity with standard methods for sampling and testing.
- Understanding of regulatory specifications and standards.
- Proficiency in mathematics, including algebra, statistics, and geometry.
- Capability to use specialized analytical instrumentation and software programs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, including tasks such as copying, pasting, importing, exporting, and using macros.
