The Lee County Department of Transportation is seeking dedicated individuals to fill the role of Heavy Equipment Operator. The incumbent will play a crucial part in operating a variety of heavy equipment to support road construction, maintenance, and infrastructure projects. This role operates under general supervision with defined procedures while allowing autonomy in task completion. Benefits Include:
- Daily operation of the asphalt patch truck and asphalt compactor.
- Daily raking of asphalt.
- Weekly operation of the attenuator truck.
- Occasional driving of a dump truck.
- Use of hand power tools, including cutoff saws and jackhammers, as needed.
- Assisting other crews on an as-needed basis.
- Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and one year of heavy equipment operation or closely related experience.
- This is a safety-sensitive position, which is subject to Drug & Alcohol Workplace testing as provided in DOT regulation 49CFR-parts 40 and /or 382.
- Possession of a valid Class B CDL with air brakes endorsement and an acceptable driving record is required.
- Possession of a valid Class A CDL is preferred.
- Must be able to stand, sit, crawl, or kneel for long periods and work outdoors in all types of weather.
- Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with team members.
- The work days and hours for this position are Monday - Thursday 7:00 am - 5:30 pm.
