The Lee County Department of Transportation is delighted to announce an exciting opportunity for a motivated and energetic self-starter to join the team as a Heavy Equipment Operator, Senior. This position is responsible for cleaning culverts and piped drainage systems using high-pressure water from the Vac-Con sewer/pipe cleaning machine.
- Assist with roadway maintenance, culvert pipe cleaning, and the upkeep of other drainage systems.
- Operate a Vac-Con sewer/pipe cleaning machine.
- The role also includes independently completing assigned tasks and maintaining work schedules.
- Work is monitored by a Crew Supervisor who provides guidance for complex issues and inspects completed tasks for quality and adherence to timelines.
- Document daily activities in an Asset Management system and prepare estimates, requisitions, and specifications for necessary supplies and materials.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and three years of heavy equipment operation or closely related experience.
- This is a safety-sensitive position, which is subject to Drug & Alcohol Workplace testing as provided in DOT regulation 49CFR-parts 40 and /or 382.
- Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with airbrake and acceptable driving record is required.
- Preferred Experience: Experience with Vac-Con machines and lead work experience.
- Skills: Strong knowledge and skills in equipment maintenance and operation, as well as familiarity with tools, materials, and practices of the trade.
- Technical Skills: Basic computer skills.
- Instructions: Ability to follow oral and written instructions with minimal technical supervision.
- Safety: Knowledge of traffic regulations and the ability to set up a safe work zone.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift, push, pull, or move up to 70 pounds, and to stand, crawl, sit, or kneel for long periods in all weather conditions.
