What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nutritionist II- WIC (Women, Infants, Children) position at Lee County Government?
General Definition of Work
The employee in this position provides nutrition services to clients of the WIC Program. These services include conducting a basic nutrition assessment, determining eligibility for WIC, and education to clients on nutrition topics. Nutrition education is an essential part of WIC participation. Counseling is limited to basic food groups, simple dietary recommendations, and normal developmental eating patterns. This position plans and coordinates outreach efforts to help increase caseload. Duties of this position also include clerical support and administrative functions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Specialized knowledge and skill in comprehensive nutrition assessment and care planning, including problem diagnosis, counseling, and evaluation of clients from diverse backgrounds, ages, and with multiple and complex health and therapeutic nutritional needs. Broad knowledge in health care ethics, documentation in the medical record, and quality assurance. Knowledge in organization of community health and nutrition resources. Sophisticated knowledge of current scientific information regarding nutrition, diet, and health and the ability to relate this information to clients, professionals, and the general public.
Education and Experience:
Registered Dietitian, registered with ACEND (Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics); Master’s degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Nutrition; from an accredited four-year college or university; Bachelor’s degree from a ACEND accredited didactic program in Dietetics AND 2 years nutrition experience; Dietetic Technician, Registered with ACEND with a Bachelor’s degree in any area from an accredited four- year college or university AND 2 years of nutrition experience; Bachelor’s of Science degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or Community Nutrition from an accredited four-year college or university AND 2 years nutrition experience.
