What are the responsibilities and job description for the SW III (Foster Care and Adoptions) position at Lee County Government?
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT:
This position is assigned to the Family & Children’s Unit. The purpose of this unit is to protect children from abuse, neglect, and dependency by stabilizing the family and assisting parents in becoming more adequate in their parenting role. The unit is composed of five areas of responsibility: (1) - receives and investigates allegations/referrals of children believed to be abused, neglected, and/or dependent because of inadequate parental protection and/or unusual, excessive, or inappropriate discipline or behavior; (2) continues to work with families whose allegations were founded by Protective Services assessment and whose children remain in the home around creating safe environments for the children; (3) provides temporary placement for children who have been removed from their homes through court intervention due to abuse, neglect and/or dependency; (4) seeks families to provide temporary family care for children who have been removed from their homes because of living conditions which are injurious to the welfare of the child(ren); (5) provides permanency for children.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The adoption worker is part of the Children’s Services unit. The primary responsibility of the adoption worker is to achieve permanence for children who are free and clear for adoption. The adoption worker will determine adoption assistance eligibility for special needs children in DSS custody or for residents of Lee County. The adoption worker will be required to maintain adoption and adoption assistant records and follow the general statutes of confidentiality. The adoption worker will be the primary contact for families needing post adoption services. The worker will need to have knowledge of community resources and refer families for services that will assist in preventing disruptions. The adoption worker will have the responsibility of adoption and adoption assistance record maintenance. The adoption worker will have foster care responsibilities for children who become part of their caseload when the primary plan changes to adoption. The adoption position will be part of the on-call - after hours rotation and CPS intake lunch coverage rotation. Hybrid work may be a possibility in this position.
MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
MSW from an accredited school of social work; OR BSW from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative; OR BSW from an accredited school of social work and one year directly related experience; OR Master’s degree in a counseling from an accredited college/university and two years directly related experience; OR four year degree from an accredited college/university and three years of directly related experience; OR Master’s degree in counseling from an accredited college/university in a human services field and one year directly related experience.
Licenses and Certifications:
· Valid North Carolina Driver License.
